“We were absolutely delighted with the cottage and it is much bigger than the photos suggest!”

Lots of space with the downstairs being open plan which was so handy and suited our needs very well. Upstairs the bedrooms are also a brilliant size and bathroom light and airy. The only things I think that could be improved would be some blackout blinds or curtains in the bedrooms as they did get very light super early in the morning. And finally a little welcome pack of some coffee, tea, sugar, biscuits etc would have been a nice touch. We did appreciate the pack of cleaning items that were ...

I would definitely rebook the cottage next time we are heading to the Lake District, really fab accommodation. Thank you for a great stay!

“Generally the property was ok .”

Would benefit from a coat of paint doors very random and seemed to all need a coat of paint. Sitting out area disappointing and garden furniture poor quality. In the description felt it would be a nicer sitting out area . Good location.

“Beautiful cottage and a fab location.”

We had a super week. We cooked a few times and had everything we needed but there are lovely places to eat out. Comfortable furniture although we swapped the sofa and chairs round for the week so we could sit together! Will be booking to come back next year

“Swallows Nest is a delightful holiday cottage.”

It is good to look at, nicely decorated, well equipped and comfortable. In addition I noticed two things sometimes lacking in other holiday homes - it has useful mirrors and adequate bedside lights. Hawkshead village is lovely and the cottage is so close to all the amenities along with its own parking area it could not be better.

“A decent property in a great location with access to amenities and some decent walking trails.”

We had an overall wonderful experience during our long weekend stay. The property has all the essentials and well equipped kitchen if you want to cook. The parking at the back is reasonable except that the road is a cul de sac and can be tight for turns at times.

“Nice cottage, loved the view.”

Liked that it was back from the road, nice quiet area, comfortable stay, would happily stay again. Only issue was back door threshold needs attention, the threshold bar is loose and causing the door to stick and had difficulty in getting the door closed.

“This is the third time I’ve stayed at Swallow’s Nest, this time with a friend.”

We didn’t want to eat out but found the kitchen could have been better equipped for even basic cooking. Other than that, it remains a lovely, comfortable cottage in a very convenient location.

“What a wonderful find!”

We booked a last minute break at Swallows Nest and it was the perfect place to relax and enjoy the Lakes. Nestled in a quiet cul de sac right behind Hawkshead village two minutes walk from all the shop, pubs and restaurants it’s an ideal location. The cottage itself is gorgeous, it has a great open plan living dining and kitchen space downstairs which was clean, warm and modern. Plenty of space for 4 adults and a small dog. Shower was hot and powerful, beds were a little hard but still slept well. We got out to Bowneas on Windermere via the lake ferry, Ambleside and did the Elterwater circular walk. There are also beautiful walks directly from the cottage. I wouldn’t hesitate to book here again.

“Another wonderful stay.”

We love staying at Seallows Nest. The cottage has everything you need and more when returning from a long day walking. Hawkshead is beautiful, The Red Lion pubs has amazing staff and wonderful food, our dogs were made very welcome. We will see you all again in November and are currently work out dates when we can come back before.

“Lovely cottage with comfortable beds and lounge furniture.”

Well equipped kitchen and a real treat to have a dishwasher. All very clean. Just some niggles that need sorting: light bulb replacement on landing, hanging space in double bedroom, more than one toilet roll, kitchen roll and tin foil supplies and a small welcome pack would all be expected for the price of this property. It was freezing on our arrival and we would have expected the heating to be on before check in time. We would still book again and recommend if these points are rectified.

“We have just spent a wonderful 2 weeks at Swallows Next and had a fantastic time.”

The weather was extremely kind for the kind of year and the location of the cottage is amazing. There are so many walks on your doorstep without having to use the car. The Cottage was as described, clean and tidy. I believe the owners are new and are doing a great job. We stay in The Lakes multiple times a year and will be booking again for next year. This cottage will be our go to now. The only niggle we had was the bedding needs to be updated as it appears to be quite old and tatty. We nipped to TKmaxx and bought new. the outside needs a bit of a tidy up also as the green moss is quite slippy. Lakelovers, you need to advise owners of thing like this, if they are not aware, they cannot resolve. Thank you for letting us stay, we will be back all being well, March, June, November and possible December.

“Lovely cosy cottage with comfy beds and sofa.”

Very clean and extremely well situated as only a 3 minute walk to Hawkshead village and all amenities which include 2 nice pubs for evening meals. Only a couple of small criticisms in that the kettle needs replacing as the lid wouldn’t stay shut and there is no welcome pack which was a little disappointing.

“We found the cottage very cosy and relaxing.”

We loved the comfortable sofa, beds, fluffy towels and entertainment (TV, games, books). The location was excellent. We would have appreciated somewhere to hang/fold our clothes. There were only tiny drawers in a bedside table in the twin room (shared with my 12 yr old). The key to the property was at the back of the house, not the front door as stated, which was confusing initially. Apart from those minor issues we had a lovely time.

“The location of this property was perfect for me, right in the heart of Hawkshead but set in a quiet courtyard.”

The information given regarding key collection was misleading: they keybox is at the back door rather than the front door. I would have appreciated instructions on how to work the heating - I didn’t need it on this week since it was warm and sunny, but I would need to know how to work it if I returned later in the year. The kitchen was well stocked and the house was clean, tidy and comfortable. A couple of garden chairs would be good for warm days, but there is an (uncomfortable) picnic bench if you’re desperate!

“A comfortable warm cottage, well situated.”

However there are no wardrobes & no hanging space in bedrooms. It would be helpful to have instructions for heating and other items, eg microwave etc.

The picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter.
