“Old stores is a cracker of a place.”

The owners are super friendly and very helpful. The location is ideal for exploring Windermere and the surrounding area. The ferry is close and the bus stop around the corner. The local is 100 yards away. We had a super holiday and Old Stores was a big part of that.

“Personally I would of liked more comfortable seating , although the seating provided was fine for a short sit down say 10mins any thing longer became a bit uncomfortable.”

Maybe a two seater sofa may suit the cottage better. The bed was two singles put together not the most comfortable but very clean, The Old Sawrey is a cosy little cottage and very clean , there was a good selection of cooking and crockery utensils once again all very clean, with tea towels and a selection of cleaning materials The shower was good with regular hot water. All in all not a bad stay. The biggest disappointment was not with the accommodation, but the pub 50 yards over the road, we went over for an evening meal and was told cooking and serving was stopped at 7.30, we arrived at 7.40pm.

“We have just returned from a lovely week at Old Sawrey Stores.”

This little studio is perfect for two, and Chris and Julie are great hosts. The surrounding area is beautiful with lots of lovely walks, and a five minute drive to the ferry over to Bowness. Hill Top Farm, the home of Beatrix Potter, is within walking distance, along with 2 pubs if you want to eat out. Everything was spotlessly clean, and the studio is well equipped. We were aware before we booked that there was no oven, and although we didn't think this would be a problem, in reality it wasn't ideal. The property would benefit from a mirror, there is a small shaving mirror in the bathroom, but if like me, you like to blow dry your hair, it's useless. The entrance to and exit from the property can be quite tricky, it's a single track road and visibility getting in and out isn't great. Finally, its the first time we've ever booked a Sykes property (and we've booked a lot!!) and there was no welcome pack, so remember to take some milk or you'll have a bit of a drive to pick some up!!

It is spotlessly clean and very comfortable. There's the option of two local pubs that serve good beer and regular pub food. However, there are enough utensils in the property to self cater. We enjoyed a lovely stay.

Not very big but fine for a couple. Close to the ferry, two pubs nearby as well. Lots of great local walks from your door, Hill Top just down the lane. Great owners, very friendly and helpful. We'll use Sawrey Stores next time we're in the area.

The property was exactly as described and the information left by the owners was very helpful. All the property amenities were straightforward and practical to use. Thanks for sorting the twin beds. Though the property is close to the owners’s house they were very respectful of our space which we appreciated. Julie was really lovely. The property site is ideal for walkers who don’t want to be in a town setting and who are used to/don’t mind the quiet. Having a pub over the road was ideal for the first night too. We got the best of the LD and we would be back in a shot.

The accommodation is well fitted, very comfy bed! Nice location especially if you like walking and less than 10 minutes drive to Hawkshead and easy to get to other places. There's a nice pub just across the road from there as well!! We would definitely stay there again.

Welcome to Beatrix Potter country and stay in the former village shop which has been beautifully converted into an elegant studio for two. If searching for peace and quiet you have found it. It nestles in the picturesque hamlet of Far Sawrey. Perfectly situated in the heart of the English Lake District, in the quiet, picturesque village of Far Sawrey, Old Sawrey Stores is an ideal base for walking, mountain biking, fishing, wildlife. Two pubs are within easy walking distance. Fall in love with rural life in one of the Lake District's prettiest settings, with easy access to amenities, attractions, entertainment and lake cruises by taking the car ferry across Lake Windermere to Bowness. Accommodation Enter into the open plan living space with its abundance of natural light from above and the huge picture windows. This gives Old Sawrey Stores a light, airy, contemporary studio ambience. The main living space features a well-equipped, modern, fitted dining-kitchen combined with a versatile lounge area with comfortable soft leather armchairs and Smart TV. Free Wi-Fi is available. Two steps lead down to a private, cosy sleeping area with a super king zip & link bed (can be split into singles upon request). Two racks of coat hooks and a seven-drawer chest provide storage for clothing. The bathroom is on the same level, with toilet, shower, washbasin, heated towel rail and underfloor heating. Please note - no oven in the property, but a hob and microwave. Sorry no pets LocationFar Sawrey is a tranquil village to the west of Lake Windermere, with a magnificent church and local pub. The area on your doorstep is stuffed with excellent walking routes; no need to drive to a starting point. Lake Windermere or the passenger and car ferry taking you across to the more lively side of the lake, providing access to shops, restaurants, hire boats and Lake District family attractions in Bowness - including the Royalty Cinema, Old Laundry Theatre and the famous World of Beatrix Potter attraction. (Please check the times of return ferries). The Cuckoo Brow is the nearest country pub offering great food, with the Tower Bank Arms only a short drive (couple of minutes). The ferry (both car and passenger ferries – please check timetables) is a short drive and it’s worth paying a visit to the Claife viewing station en route which offers breath-taking views along the lake. There are lovely walks along the lakeshore in both directions. Wray Castle is a popular destination. Beatrix Potter's footsteps are right on your doorstep, in this prime location for walking and exploring. The close-by hamlet of Near Sawrey was the author's home, and her traditional Lakeland cottage can be visited at Hill Top. Esthwaite Water is a must-see during your stay; declared by Beatrix Potter as 'the most beautiful of lakes'. Moss Eccles tarn was another of her favourite places and it’s a lovely walk over Claife Heights. Near Sawrey's Tower Bank Arms is a renowned Lake District country pub and featured in Beatrix Potter's books. Hawkshead village is also only a short drive away. With its car-free cobbled streets, local shops, tea rooms and tempting delicatessens you'll find a leisurely day is well spent. Drive a little further and you'll reach Ambleside; a cosmopolitan Lake District village with sophisticated shops, cafes and restaurant’s. From Ambleside, you can also stroll to Waterhead Pier to take a cruise on Lake Windermere or follow the A591 to Rydal Water and historic Grasmere.

Hawkshead 3.9 miles; Bowness (via ferry) 1.5 miles.

The village of Far Sawrey has a pub/restaurant, whilst Bowness, with all its shops, restaurants and leisure facilities, is just a short distance across the lake by ferry. Also close by is ‘Hill Top’, once the home of Beatrix Potter, and Hawkshead with its picturesque 17th century cottages. Footpaths lead from the grounds to the village and Claife Heights - a noted beauty spot of forests and tarns. Watersports are close at hand on Windermere, along with Lake Cruises and the majestic Wray Castle to admire. Fishing can be enjoyed on nearby Esthwaite Water and, of course, fell walking.
