    “We had an exceptionally comfortable stay in Jessamine Cottage.”

    The weather was not good but the accommodation more than made up for the short fall. The property was clean and modern and provided parking for one vehicle on the doorstep which was most convenient. There were no passing vehicles and the cottage was very quiet. The heating remained on throughout the day which was a bonus to come back to a warm place after walking during the day. The living flame gas fire provided added warmth and was a lovely feature. The location was ideal for the shops and ...

The bedrooms were relaxing and the beds were supportive with clean, fresh linen. A lot of attention to detail has gone into this property and it is a place which we would highly recommend.

The property

Located in the heart of historic Hawkshead, a pretty market village set in the beautiful Lake District National Park, lies this three-storey, mid-terraced property, Jessamine Cottage. Jessamine Cottage, which has contemporary flair throughout the interior while preserving its traditional cottage facade, is ideal for two couples looking for a peaceful getaway in this picturesque community, whilst also being conveniently situated close to a variety of intriguing attractions. Upon entering the open-plan living area, unwind in the sitting area that is kept warm and cosy by a gas stove-effect fire, or perch on the quaint window seat with the sleek, Smart TV there to entertain you and your loved ones whilst you catch up on the day’s events. Enjoy the warmth of underfloor heating whilst you and your loved ones whip up a tasty meal in the well-equipped kitchen, settled down to enjoy your food at the table before bringing out a boardgame from home. When sleep finally calls, head to the stunning first-floor king-size bedroom, which has an en-suite bathroom with mood lighting and a mirror with a Bluetooth speaker so you can listen to some calming music whilst you take a soothing bath before getting some well-deserved slumber. With Smart TVs in both bedrooms, you can spend tranquil mornings cuddled up under the blankets watching your favourite shows while sipping a hot cup of coffee or tea. The super king-size bedroom, located on the second floor, benefits from three Velux windows that let in natural light and provide breath-taking views over the charming village of Hawkshead. If you want some fresh air, step outside into the rear patio, which has seating and is a lovely place for evening drinks or outdoor dining. If you want to explore the neighbourhood, visit one of the four village pubs—The Red Lion Inn is nearby—to have a local ale and some delicious pub fare. If you feel up to it, start from your door and take a picturesque stroll up to Tarn Hows, which is regarded as having one of the best views in the Lake District thanks to its woodland setting and views of the peaceful, open countryside. For a day of excitement and adventure, stop by Go Ape at Grizedale Forest, where zip wires and a treetop ropes course are strung forty feet in the air! Simply take a stroll along one of the lovely woodland trails to engage in a more leisurely pastime and try to find all fifty of the sculptures hidden around the forest! Just outside of Ambleside is the Brockhole Visitors Centre, where you can partake in a variety of activities like treetop trekking, mini golf, archery, laser clay shooting, boat rentals, or you can just relax and sample some of the best Cumbrian cuisine in the café, which has table service and breath-taking views of Lake Windermere from its terrace. A great place to visit for any fans of Beatrix Potter's fantastic children's books is the National Trust's Hill Top, a charming farmhouse still filled with the author's original furnishings and favourite possessions, thoughtfully preserved to appear as though she has just stepped outside for a brief walk. In Ambleside, which is brimming with history and is home to historical landmarks like the Ambleside Roman Fort; in Bowness-on-Windermere, pay a visit to The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction before marvelling at the amazing, aquatic creatures in the Lakes Aquarium. If you want to make a day of it, make the drive to Keswick, a market town that lies close to Derwent Lake and is overlooked by the Skiddaw Mountain range. If you're willing, Kendal, which is known for its eponymous mint cake and boasts grey limestone buildings that give it the nickname "Auld Grey Town," is well worth the drive. It offers daily indoor and weekly outdoor markets where various local treats can be sampled and bought. When you book a stay at Jessamine Cottage, you can enjoy of all of this and so much more.

The picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Visitors can wander the wealth of tiny alleyways, thoroughfares, archways and courtyards between the whitewashed 17th century houses. There are many pleasant inns, teashops, guest houses and gift shops in the village, as well as the Beatrix Potter Gallery, which houses an annually changing exhibition of the famous author’s illustrations and stories. The other famous Hawkshead enthusiast, William Wordsworth, attended the Old Grammar School in 1779-87, which still stands today, and you can visit the building where the Lakeland poet developed his love of the form, and even see the desk into which he scratched his name as a small boy! Newby Bridge is ten miles away and offers attractions such as the Aquarium of the Lakes and Windermere Lake Cruises, sailing daily between Ambleside, Bowness and Lakeside. With stunning scenery and numerous attractions within easy touring distance, Hawkshead is in an ideal location at any time of the year.
