“We had a lovely short break at Oaklea.”

Situated in a quiet estate, it's only a 10 minute walk into Keswick. The house is very spacious and comfortable, with a lovely conservatory and it was absolutely spotless throughout with the thoughtful addition of some welcome gifts. The owner, Julia, was lovely, briefly meeting her when she popped around to cut the grass one afternoon. There were just a couple of minor things that you might want to be aware of. Firstly, the sloped ceiling over the toilet in the en-suite bathroom is very low. Both of us bumped our heads as turning around to flush the loo. And the other, is that the freezer is in the garage. A bit of an inconvenience especially when it's raining. Nevertheless, we had a lovely stay, and would definitely stay again. Neil & Lesley, Leeds.

“A lovely property.”

The conservatory was a particular bonus as the weather was not good. Lovely garden too. Just one or two upgrades are needed. The leather furniture is very dirty. It needs cleaning regularly and debris removed from underneath the seat cushions. The kitchen sink is in a poor state and needs replacing. Mattresses need renewing. The bedding on the double bed does not fit properly and keeps pulling off the corner of the mattress. Too many ornaments and cushions. Despite this we had a good stay at Oaklea. The private parking was a real bonus. We would certainly book again.

Thank you for taking time to review Oaklea. Although it’s a little contradictory, we’re pleased you had a lovely time and say you’d book again. The king mattress is 6 months old and the others are under 2 years old (when we opened). Other guests have specifically commented on how comfortable they are. All have mattress protectors which are regularly checked and replaced if necessary. Although we have a (very good) cleaner, we live nearby so call in to Oaklea most changeovers to make sure high standards are maintained. Property Owner

“We had a really lovely week in April at Oaklea and enjoyed blue skies and warm temperatures every single day which was exceptional.”

Oaklea is immaculately clean, spacious with a well-appointed kitchen, a pleasant garden and the two parking spaces were especially appreciated. The owner was helpful and friendly. We walked into Keswick every day and enjoyed dining out every night. Returning each evening to Oaklea's haven of peace, quiet and birdsong was wonderful. A real gem of a place. Our only disappointment was the quality of the bedding and the very thin downstairs bedroom curtain which didn't stop any light getting in. The bedding was very synthetic, the very thin duvets rolled up in the duvet covers and we would have loved some natural cotton fibres. We would happily stay again and thoroughly recommend Oaklea to future guests, but would probably bring our own bedding...

“It was such a pleasure to stay at Oaklea.”

The bungalow is beautifully decorated and a very comfortable home to stay in. There were three of us, including an elderly person who struggles with mobility. She was able to walk in the front door and moved around downstairs with ease, which was really helpful. All the facilities we needed were there and everything worked well. The beds were comfortable and the showers very good. Oaklea is delightfully positioned - close enough to walk into Keswick with all its amenities and restaurants and bars, but also to access the hills and mountains. The conservatory was wonderful - a great place for someone who wants to enjoy the stunning scenery without having to walk them! We had a wonderful welcome, with treats being left for us. It was lovely to meet the owner, who came to welcome us. Overall, we have had a fantastic stay, helped also by unseasonably warm, sunny weather. Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful home.

The views from the conservatory and kitchen are outstanding. The location is perfect, quiet yet only a small walk into town. Parking was good which is always a bonus when renting a property. Cleanliness was of a high standard. The owner was fast to respond and very helpful and friendly. We would definitely stay at this excellent property again.

“This is a very comfortable and restful holiday home.”

The conservatory is an addition to the lovely lounge and the views from here and the kitchen are stunning. We were able to make use of the patio twice and that was a real bonus. The place was spotless and very well equipped. The en-suite is a little challenging and tight but we managed okay. The owner is easily contacted if needed. We definitely recommend this home and would book again.

Greater control over the heating would be good, especially as it was, at times, chilly. Also beware of the overhang above the en-suite toilet - it can be lethal!

Excellent location 10 minutes walk to town centre and several hill and lake walks within walking distance from the cottage Great parking for two cars. “The location is great.”

It is easy to walk to Keswick town centre. The house is tidy and comfy. While the facilities and appliances are fully functional, some of them (e.g. TV, microwave) are a bit old.

“Excellent accommodation in a great location close to Keswick centre.”

Only minor thing we wanted to mention was the toilet seat in the en suite was wobbly when we arrived and came off about half way through our stay. Otherwise everything was perfect and we stripped all the beds before leaving to make life easier for the cleaner.

“Comfortable, airy and clean property in a good location just 10 minutes walk to the centre of Keswick and a good base for the many hill walks around the town.”

The ensuite is rather confined but you get used to it. You can see Skiddaw from the the house which enthused us to bag the summit on the last day of the holiday.

The popular town of Keswick is the holiday centre of the North of the Lake District and has plenty to offer the visitor at any time of year. The town boasts numerous shops and restaurants to suit all tastes, as well as offering miniature golf, excellent parks, the famous Theatre by the Lake, a charming cinema, the Pencil Museum, a climbing wall, fishing and great mountain biking opportunities, whilst the beautiful lake of Derwentwater at the head of the stunning Borrowdale Valley is only a few minutes walk from the town centre.
