The property

On the outskirts of the North Pennines AONB, in the beautiful sleepy village of Gamblesby, is this detached Georgian home, The Nook. Sleeping up to eight guests, The Nook provides a superb base for families looking to escape reality for a few days. After a day of walking, step into kitchen/diner, where you can whip up a hearty meal while the dining table is set with plates and silverware. There are two lounges for unwinding; the first has a charming woodburning stove placed in a feature fireplace, and the second has a Smart TV so you can watch your favourite shows. Take advantage of the quiet study where you can catch up on emails or get lost in a good book. There is also a convenient utility room with a washing machine and tumble dryer, so you won't need to carry your entire wardrobe! The bedrooms are located upstairs; there is a king-size with lovely views, two doubles, and a bathroom with a bath or shower over. The second-floor plays host to a twin room with a convenient en-suite shower. To the exterior lies a patio with a sizable lawned garden, a generous space for family games or simply enjoy the last of evening sunshine. Once your itinerary is established, put on your walking shoes and head out on one of the many trails in the North Pennines. You can follow these trails to a variety of scenic locations like Ashgill Force and the summit of Cross Fell, while different types of adventure can be found at Barhaugh Hall at the Robinwood Activity Center. Kirkoswald has a lot to discover, such as its ancient Castle, Lacy's Caves, and the magnificent Neolithic stone circle Meg and Her Daughter's. Penrith Castle, a castle built in the fourteenth century, would appeal to history buffs, and Eden Museum offers unique insights into the region's past. A stay at The Nook is likely to be full of adventure with all of this and the beauties of the Lake District nearby.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.

About the location

PENRITH

Keswick 17 miles; Carlisle 20 miles.

The bustling market town of Penrith, once the capital of Cumbria, enjoys a central position between the Lake District, the Westmoorland Dales and North Pennines and is ideally placed for taking in all that the region has to offer. Renowned for its wealth of specialist shops, the sandstone buildings of Penrith hide intriguing yards, lanes and alleyways, with a myriad of attractive cottages, gardens and little shops. With a wide choice of excellent pubs, hotels, restaurants and entertainment, Penrith also offers a museum, and Millennium Trails round the historic city streets. Within easy reach of the town is Rheged – an innovative visitor centre with shops, restaurants, exhibitions and a giant cinema screen showing educational and informative films. Brougham Castle, Brougham Hall (The Windsor of the North), Lowther Castle and Gardens, Long Meg and her daughters (the 3rd largest stone circle in England) and the historic city of Carlisle are all a short drive away, as is the stunning scenery of both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales.
