As part of our ongoing commitment to conservation and the environment, Heart of the Lakes is best known for our involvement in the innovative ‘Our Man at the Top’ scheme, an essential project in which we have been instrumental since 1995.
Both Peter and Sue are founders and continuing directors of the Lake District Tourism Conservation Partnership (now Lake District Foundation), an organization that promotes the care of the natural environment through Responsible Tourism.
The 2016 Festival of the Fells idea was forged in January of that year to promote Ambleside after the extreme floods. The event is an outdoor/cultural festival, designed particularly to appeal to fell lovers of all levels, with Heart of the Lakes as the main sponsor.
Since the early 1990’s, Heart of the Lakes has sponsored the ‘Rydal Round Fell Race’ at the famous Ambleside Sports Day. Known as the ‘Heart of the Lakes Rydal Round’, the nine mile race around the Fairfield horseshoe is a prestige event on the day.
The Calvert Trust is an independent charity providing life-changing experiences for people of all ages with sensory, learning and physical disabilities. 2016 has seen the central Lake District invaded by a flock of life sized decorated fantasy Herdwick ewes appearing in unexpected places.
