  • “Stayed in Bank Foot on 3 occasions and love the cottage, location and the fact that we can leave the car in the garage.”

Although we reported on our first day the lounge blind sticking in a low position prohibiting light from entering the room, nothing was done about it. I also E-Mailed your Housekeeping Manager about the problem but did nt get a response. The fact that the price of a weeks stay at Bank Foot next August has increased by over £200 we will not be returning. I also expect nothing to be done about this feedback.

The property

This charming detached single-storey cottage for two will 'tick many boxes' being in a quiet residential area almost mid-way between Ambleside village centre and Lake Windermere at Waterhead. With walks from the door, year-round lake cruises and all village facilities in the immediate area you will have plenty to do during your stay whatever time of year you choose. The cottage has been carefully refurbished and will be popular with all ages offering an eclectic mix of character and modern with all the comforts of home. Accommodation: Three steps down to the entrance hallway with hooks for coats and space to leave your outdoor gear. The light and spacious lounge/dining room has some fell views, A-frame beams and patio doors to a pretty cottage garden (gas stove, TV freesat, Blu Ray DVD and Wi-Fi). A well planned kitchen offers all facilities with cream units and slate flooring. The bedroom has a king-size bed and there is a separate house bathroom with shower over bath, basin and WC. Furnishings throughout are stylish with some antique pieces, leather armchair and comfy sofa. Neutral colour schemes and attractive fabrics complete the scene. Local Kirkstone slate floors to hallway, kitchen and bathroom, fitted carpets elsewhere. Gas central heating and hot water. Outside: The cottage has its own charming south-facing garden with mature shrubs and small trees, garden table and chairs and a couple of steps onto the lawned area. Parking in the garage for one car (L4.7m x W2.3m x H1.8m narrowing to 1m) and there is usually parking available in the lane nearby. Ambleside village and lake half a mile approx. Note: Sorry no children or babies.

About the location

AMBLESIDE

Windermere 4 miles; Grasmere 4 mile; Keswick 15 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
