    “This was our first visit to the Lake District and it was a fantastic week away staying at Silver How.”

    The house had absolutely everything we needed and is perfectly situated to access Ambleside and all the walks and views nearby. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we have booked to return next year! The daily visits from the deer, watching the bats flying in the dusk each evening and the quiet surroundings added to a relaxing family holiday. Thank you!

The property

Set mid-way between Ambleside village and the head of Lake Windermere this spacious Lakeland house is sure to please. One of five exclusive properties originally built in Victorian times, it is reached up a long private drive and has an air of quiet luxury much sought after in a holiday home. With lake cruises to be enjoyed throughout the year, excellent walks from the door and a fine choice of places to eat out in Ambleside and at Waterhead, there is very little need to use the car on a daily basis. The ascent of nearby Todd Crag is highly recommended for the fine views from its summit taking in the length of Lake Windermere and the surrounding fells. Accommodation: Covered entrance porch. Entrance hall has hooks for coats etc.. Downstairs wc. Spacious 'through' lounge/dining room is L-shaped leading to the fully fitted kitchen. The main seating area is to the front (TV, DVD, wi-fi, video) divided from the dining room by an open archway. Double door to rear patio. Stairs from the hall lead to three bedrooms - a master with king-size bed to the front has three windows and is en-suite (including bath with wall-mounted shower, basin and wc). A good sized twin room and an attractive single room complete the accommodation. Family bathroom has corner shower, basin and wc. Furnished in classic modern style with carefully chosen colours and fabrics and an excellent feeling of space and comfort. Well proportioned rooms and large windows create a feeling of light with attractive outlooks to adjoining fields and beyond. Outside: Enclosed south facing rear gravelled patio has garden bench plus table and chairs - an ideal place to relax or for eating out of doors and a real sun-trap on summery days. Private parking for two cars in numbered spaces. A few hundred yards level walk brings you to the lake, boating and lakeside park, with Ambleside centre, bowls, tennis, pitch and putt, and cinemas the same distance the other way. Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
