    Bed and shower in the main bedroom were completely fab. Kitchen well equipped We were disappointed to not even have a pint of milk left for us to make tea on arrival (we stay in many properties and it seems to be a minimum standard and the last time we were up and in Ambleside in February there was a lovely collection of biscuits, milk, preserve and sourdough bread in a much more modest property) We were left with six sheets of kitchen towel, no bin bags, an inch of washing up liquid and a dishwasher with no salt or rinse aid. The loos had no hand towels. The house was very hot at times but we couldn’t turn down the heaters so had to open windows which seems very wasteful Finally several days our early mornings and all access to the terrace were disrupted by the noise and presence of decorators and their machinery working in the property with an alarm going off on the cherry picker soon after 8am on a couple of mornings and a power cable being trailed across our front door step. This did spoil our holiday With such a pricey property it was really annoying to have such problems ( especially being woken early by workman noise and thinking they’d be able to see in) in an otherwise wonderful property. Please note the workmen themselves were pleasant I have a video of the decorator alarm / noise.

    Thank you for your feedback which we always endeavour to take on board. We are delighted you describe our property as wonderful and that it was warm for your stay. Some of the heaters can be controlled by guests if it is too warm and others are operated remotely-we are always responsive when guests ask us to adjust these (within reason) during their stay. Regarding the kitchen roll etc, supplies are usually left for guests and we are sorry if this was missed. However, as soon as it was brought to our attention the problem was rectified and some were delivered to you. Just to clarify, a hand towel and a bath towel are left for each guest. At the time of your visit, some decorating was being done to the exterior of the building. This was part of a rolling programme of decoration, necessary to keep the building looking its best. This work is due to be completed this week and we can only apologise for any noise. We are now pleased to be reintroducing our welcome packs which were paused during covid. Property Owner


The property

This spacious holiday home over three floors enjoys truly spectacular views over Grasmere Lake. The home forms part of an outstanding former gentlemen's residence (now divided into several properties), only minutes away from the centre of Grasmere and stands proud in shared landscaped gardens attracting lots of wildlife. There are some well-known walks from the door including Alcock Tarn, Loughrigg, Fairfield and the Rydal Round. Grasmere village is only a short walk down the hill, where you will find a wealth of shops, pubs and restaurants and the famous Gingerbread shop. Dove Cottage and Grasmere lake are only a short walk away. Ideal for families and friends and couples alike to take in the peace and tranquillity Wood Close offers. Lovingly presented to provide superb, comfortable and home from home accommodation. Accommodation: Front door entrance into vestibule with space for coats and boots. Door leading to large hallway with high ceilings, to the left a large lounge and diner with views over the garden and Grasmere Lake. From the hallway on the right is the kitchen, with granite worktops and shaker style units. A twin bedroom on the ground floor and a separate (shower wc and basin). On the first floor a large king bedroom, a further twin bedroom and a king en-suite (shower, basin and wc). A family bathroom with bath, wc. A second lounge with wood burner ample comfortable seating (TV,Ipod docking station, DVD player) with an elevated view from the large window of Grasmere Lake with window seating. The basement is home to a cosy Den/Games room with table football comfy seating and a 55" TV with freeview. A seperate WC and basin and a large utility room.The property has mostly fitted carpets throughout and electric storage heating. Furnishings are beautiful and traditional with a high quality standard, and the modern country house style creates a comfortable feel with co-ordinated neutral colours and an array of fabrics. Outside: The front of the property has a paved sitting-out area with garden furniture (views towards Grasmere and beyond) and large shared and beautifully landscaped gardens. Enjoy the stunning location while keeping an eye out for red squirrels, badgers and deer. There is private parking for three medium sized cars in allocated spaces immediately in front of the property.

Ambleside 5 miles; Windermere 9 miles; Keswick 13 miles.

Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family has been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century, and Grasmere Lake. Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere, and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.
