“An excellent base for all the walks in the area with outstanding views.”

The house was clean, warm and welcoming with plenty of parking and ensuite bedrooms, always a bonus.

The property

Lakefield House is one of only three exclusive Lakeland houses at this location set in a commanding hillside location overlooking Ambleside and with panoramic views over Lake Windermere and the surrounding fells. Beautifully converted for 21st century luxury living it retains all the character and charm of the original farmhouse c1840. With Ambleside centre just three quarters of a mile away down the hill you will be spoiled for places to eat out and there are excellent walks to be enjoyed from the door without any need to use the car. Fell walkers will take pleasure in the ascent of Fairfield - the path to Sweden Bridge starts just opposite the house, and those who wish to tour the area are well placed for visits to all the major sights. Accommodation: This is a double fronted house with the front door into a central hallway. To the left is a cosy sitting room with feature fireplace with wood burning stove (TV, video and DVD, CD/radio/cassette). Cream coloured kitchen with rangemaster cooker, original wood floor and large table for family meals. On the first floor the three delightful bedrooms are all en-suite. The master double with king-sized bed has stairs to en-suite (shower over, basin and wc); the second double has stairs to en-suite (shower, basin and wc); twin room (shower, basin and wc). All three bedrooms have fine views to the lake. A lower ground floor room reached by stairs from the hall is set up as an extra 'snug' or study - a place for quiet reading or a board game, with TV, video, DVD Wii with games and CD/radio/cassette. Utility area and separate wc/shower. The owner has created a modern traditional country look with carefully chosen fabrics and colour schemes throughout. Oil central heating. Fitted carpets to bedrooms, natural floor coverings in the lounge and stairs. Outside: Ample parking for two cars within the grounds. Lakefield House has its own private garden area with mature shrubs and trees - a pathway leads to the patio area with garden table and chairs from where there is a fine panoramic view over the vale of Ambleside to Lake Windermere. Ambleside cenre three quarters of a mile downhill.

About the location

Windermere 4 miles; Grasmere 4 mile; Keswick 15 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
