“We loved Syke Cottage in Hawkshead and the area.”

The cottage was comfortable and clean with everything you need when you are away from home. There was plenty of hot water, comfortable beds with nice bedding and a well equipped kitchen. We have stayed in many rental holiday homes in the Lake District and this was one of the best! Thank you.

It is only a few minutes level walk from the village centre where you will find excellent local shopping and a variety of pubs, cafes and restaurants. Parts of the cottage date from the early 18th century and it is known that Beatrix Potter's nurse once lived next door. The area offers many opportunities for walking in delightful scenery - Grizedale Forest is close by and has many miles of trails and cycle ways whilst Esthwaite Water offers opportunities for fishing in well stocked waters. Accommodation: Rear door in to the welcoming entrance area/utility where there is space to leave walking gear (feature stone fireplace with electric stove). Very attractive country kitchen featuring an Aga, stone flagged floor and Belfast sink. Separate dining room beautifully furnished with large table and antique pieces. Spacious lounge with beams and deep set windows looking out on to the garden, feature Lakeland stone fireplace with log burner, HD TV with basic sky package, DVD, free Wi-fi and spice cupboard dating back to 1702. Downstairs bathroom with bath with electric shower over, stone basin and wc. Upstairs there are three lovely bedrooms - two doubles and a twin, all with tasteful decor and soft furnishings ,and far reaching views. Family bathroom with bath, basin and wc. About the location

HAWKSHEAD

Ambleside 5.1 miles; Kendal 17.4 miles.

The picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Visitors can wander the wealth of tiny alleyways, thoroughfares, archways and courtyards between the whitewashed 17th century houses. There are many pleasant inns, teashops, guest houses and gift shops in the village, as well as the Beatrix Potter Gallery, which houses an annually changing exhibition of the famous author’s illustrations and stories. The other famous Hawkshead enthusiast, William Wordsworth, attended the Old Grammar School in 1779-87, which still stands today, and you can visit the building where the Lakeland poet developed his love of the form, and even see the desk into which he scratched his name as a small boy! Newby Bridge is ten miles away and offers attractions such as the Aquarium of the Lakes and Windermere Lake Cruises, sailing daily between Ambleside, Bowness and Lakeside. With stunning scenery and numerous attractions within easy touring distance, Hawkshead is in an ideal location at any time of the year.

Note: Logs for the woodburning stove are available to buy locally. Note: No children under the age of 5
