“We will come back to Strawberry Cottage.”

Everything was clean and working. We had everything that we needed except for an oven glove. The location is fantastic. Don't print the following bit - The only (very minor0 issue was getting something we needed last minute delivered we could not find the correct address with postcode and so did not get our delivery.

“Second visit in a year and made more enjoyable this year with the introduction of high speed broadband.”

Perfect for us as mid way between Ambleside & Grasmere with buses at the bottom of the road for trips further away. Will stay again

“We have stayed at Strawberry cottage before and it's as beautiful as ever.”

The owners also very kindly provided a new high chair and travel cot which we were very grateful for. However, as my daughter has been shielding and we had my baby granddaughter with us we decided to wipe down frequently touched surfaces on our arrival. The cloth we used to clean light switches and the handrail on the stairs was visibility dirty which is disappointing given that arrival time is later to allow for extra cleaning. Also when I contacted Sykes by phone on Thursday afternoon to ask if we could stay an extra night i was passed from person to person in what felt a very unprofessional way. In the past all my contacts with you has been excellent and very professionally dealt with so I wonder if the change is due to the merger with Syresham.

The property

Picture book pretty Strawberry Cottage nestles in the tiny hamlet of Rydal mid-way between Ambleside and Grasmere in the very heart of the Lake District. The surrounding area is perfect for walking and rambling amid some of Lakeland's finest scenery - the footpaths to the Fairfield Horseshoe pass the door, as does the Rydal Round with its much loved 'coffin trail' along the fell side to Grasmere. An easy stroll will bring you to beautiful Rydal Water and beyond to Loughrigg Terrace and Loughrigg Fell. Wordsworth lived in Rydal until his death in 1850. His home and gardens are open to the public just a stone's throw away up the hill whilst there is a good pub with bar food just a short walk from this very traditional cottage. Accommodation: Strawberry Cottage is the middle house in a row of three cottages and the porch enters into a cosy beamed sitting/dining room (wood/coal burning stove, TV, DVD, video, CD/radio). The kitchen offers a good range of equipment and has back door to the rear yard. Stairs from the sitting room access the two attractive bedrooms - one double and one twin - both with washbasins. Modern bathroom has bath with power shower over, basin and wc. Strawberry Cottage has fitted carpets and comfortable furnishings, electric storage heaters in addition to the stove, and many personal touches to make you feel really at home. Outside: Charming front garden mostly of lawn with mature shrubs and a very pleasant outlook. Garden bench. The garden is enclosed but is open plan with the cottage next door. Small rear yard. Off road parking for one car in front of the cottage. Pub 300 yards, Ambleside centre approx 2 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
