Quite disappointed with Brook Cottage though, we had to clean most of the equipment in the kitchen before using it, with some kitchen equipment needing replacement, the freezer in dire need of a defrosting, the fridge in need of replacement due to broken shelving, the cottage itself is cosy and lovely but in need of some TLC; thorough clean, redecorating and freshening up.

Not entirely sure why it was pictured in the listing for this property. However, that are apart, we had a chilled relaxing few days. Cottage central and ideal for 2 people, cosy for 4! Parking on street and no problems, although we parked up and took the bus out and about. Numerous walks for every fitness level. Everywhere dog friendly, with most allowing inside as well as outside. What a bonus! A special mention to the Queens pub in Windermere! Very welcoming publicans and staff, great atmosphere and nothing too much trouble. Worth a visit….or 2……!

“All in all a good cottage with a good amount of space for a family of 4.”

Well equipped kitchen, plenty of hot water and heating works well. Only a few things, one of the mattresses is awful, the single bed by the wall, was so uncomfortable we had to take turns sleeping in it as we all slept so badly on the mattress, like sleeping on hard floorboards and I normally like a firm mattress but this is one that is past it’s best! Would be good to mention that the garden is not really completely secure, it’s likely fine for dogs and older kids but not toddlers, far to easy for 3/4 yr olds to open gate onto quite a busy street. There is no info about where to put the rubbish and what about recycling? Why can people not recycle things, I saw recycling collections. Finally, it would be nice to have a few more useful items in the kitchen, salt and pepper, some cooking oil? A proper bottle of washing up liquid instead of the tiny one provided! As well as maybe cleaning liquid for the kitchen. We pay more than enough to rent cottages, it’s a very small expense to just provide this necessary items.

“We loved the cosiness of the cottage, we have had a very comfortable stay!”

The garden was gorgeous, and perfect for our dog, we weren't expecting this based on the listing so it was a nicer surprise! The location is perfect, short walking distance to windermere and bowness but tucked away enough to be private and to find easy parking. Our only negative would be communication - we had no emails and no information online or at the cottage about arrival times, departure times, whether to take the bins out/ strip the bed etc. so we had to make a lot of this up...

Ideal for a couple or small family, this lovingly renovated character cottage is situated just on the edge of Windermere village and is within easy walking distance of all the village shops, pubs and restaurants, so no need to use the car on a daily basis. There are plenty of things to see and do close by - Lake Windermere is about a mile away on foot for lake cruises, boat hire and water sports and there are numerous walks from the door including Orrest Head, School Knott and the Dales Way. Also ideal for those wishing to travel by rail as Windermere Station is only about half a mile away. Accommodation: A few steps across the garden path to the front door. Enter into the lounge where there is a partly slate-tiled floor and room to leave coats and boots. The lounge has open fire, flat screen TV with integral DVD player and iPod dock, free wi-fi and views out to the garden. Dining kitchen has a good range of units in a country cottage style with tiled floor and stable door. Upstairs there are two bedrooms - one double and one twin both tastefully furnished. The twin room has a Victorian feature fireplace, and both rooms have wooden floors and rugs. Family bathroom has curved bath with rain shower over, also hand-held shower attachment, basin and wc. The property is very comfortably furnished with tasteful colour schemes throughout, pretty fabrics, wooden and tiled floors in most rooms, and carpet on the stairs. Gas central heating and hot water. Outside: Good sized enclosed garden and patio area with furniture to the front of the cottage, ideal for relaxing in the evening after a hard day sightseeing or walking. On street parking usually available immediately outside the house. Nearest pub 50 yards, shops etc in Windermere 5-10 minute walk.
