The property

A charming Lakeland stone-built cottage in a beautiful location in the tiny hamlet of Hartsop with its working sheep farms, right in the heart of the Lake District and in the midst of some of the finest walking country that the area has to offer. It is a good centre for touring to all parts of the Lake District and would make a pleasant place to unwind and enjoy the scenery and the property's stunning views at any time of the year. The cottage has been lovingly refurbished by its architect and artist owners in a totally original farm cottage style with original lime plaster walls, ancient floors, and lots of reclaimed furnishings harking back to the 17th Century, yet providing a really comfortable and cosy home from home with 21st century comforts. A few paces from the front gate, past the neighbour's working sheep farm adjacent to the house, there is an abundance of walking that can be enjoyed from the doorstep including High Street, Fairfield and St Sunday Crag. There are also several easier walks to suit young children. Ullswater Lake is only a short drive away giving you access to sailing, kayaking, and lake cruises, and there are places to eat out and shop in nearby Patterdale and Glenridding. Ambleside and Windermere are only 15 and 20 minutes away respectively over the Kirkstone Pass. Thomas Cottage is at one end of the larger Thomas Grove House (Property Ref. 6032), which dates originally from the late 17th century. The two properties can be joined together to sleep a total of 11. Accommodation: Rear entrance into hallway with room to store and dry your walking gear, and secure access to housekeeper's utility room with full laundry facilities whenever required. Door through to open plan reclaimed farmhouse kitchen and dining area with large pine table and original cheese shelf above. Second bedroom on the side faces towards the easterly mountains, and is offered as either a comfortable twin or a super-kingsize double. Bathroom on the half landing has bath with drench shower over, basin and wc. Throughout the downstairs are historic dressed Lakeland stone floors, and upstairs are original wooden floors with beautiful kelim rugs. If you want a holiday home with originality, personality and comfort, then Thomas Cottage is definitely for you. Outside: The cottage has its own garden area with table and chairs and ample parking for two cars. Nearest pub/shop at Brotherswater approx 1 mile, other shops in Patterdale approx 2 miles.
