“A previous reviewer likens the property to a comfortable pair of slippers.”

    - We agree, .. but rather dated slippers perhaps ! - Comfortable, but needing update in areas. (Eg. - Wooden toilet seats stained and unacceptable, Mismatching gold/ chrome fittings, mould on shower curtain.. faded 1970’s ‘pampas’ coloured suite. Light coloured lounge carpet with spot stains. Dust/ dirt behind bedroom dressing table. Exhausted batteries in remote controls… Old ice in freezer and breadcrumbs in bread bin.) ...

Storage heaters in bedroom turned off on arrival ( thanks for the fan heater !) Dishwasher intermittently working- but by the time we’d confirmed problem, ( and tried to contact local Ambleside numbers provided … ( which through go to Sykes cottages in Chester !! - (we booked with Heart of the lakes !! )) The guy in Chester tried hard to contact owner or caretaker to action repair.. but couldn’t get in touch with them ...Unacceptable ! Property definitely overpriced compared with equivalent premium operators nearby ( Langdale est. amongst others) Finally, the starter/welcome pack is pathetic. … indeed insulting! - We have had four other premium cottage breaks since April. This is by far the worst. .. and the lack of any basic cleaning materials is unprecedented. Any COVID excuse simply won’t wash ( no pun intended

The property

A delightful ground floor apartment with a quiet air of luxury very close to Lake Windermere at Waterhead - an ideal place for a relaxing holiday in the very heart of the Lake District. There are views of the lake from the main rooms and also from its own south facing garden terrace. Indeed you could well become so lazy here that you may not wish to stir from this pretty setting! There are five acres of shared grounds around the property with a host of trees and shrubs and you can frequently see deer and rabbits and a wide variety of birds. Accommodation: Betamere has its own front door leading into a hallway with hanging space for coats etc.. The large open plan sitting/dining room (flat screen TV, video, electric fire,wi-fi) has lake views from its large windows. Good quality fitted kitchen area is all in limed oak with built-in oven and hob. Double bedroom, also with large windows and lake views, has a useful en-suite toilet and basin. About the location

AMBLESIDE

Windermere 4 miles; Grasmere 4 mile; Keswick 15 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
