    “We loved the rural setting and the availability of walking in the area.”

    The accomodation was ok but felt a bit damp. The radiators helped to alleviate this. With other guests above us our experience was mixed. Some were mindful and were quiet while others were ridiculously noisy, A family with 3 boys and a dog were clearly having great fun by winding the dog up to charge about the hard surface in their lounge without any regard to other guests. It does say in the info that this can be a problem but if the upstairs was better insulated and carpeted there would be ...

The property

Bassenthwaite is a lovely stone cottage apartment located in Sawrey, Cumbria. Throughout the home the colours are attractive, welcoming and very much in the modern-contemporary style but in keeping with the classic, period cottage style. With its light walls and wooden furniture, the living room is a lovely place to relax and unwind after a long day, with the woodburning stove warming your tired feet. It has a country-style kitchen, with many modern appliances to suit all your cooking needs, and a lovely dining area for four. The property has two spacious bedrooms, one double and one twin, perfect to accommodate small families. The bedrooms have a light decor, with splashes of colour in the bed throws and lovely artwork on the walls, giving this property a wealth of character. When you visit Sawrey, why not visit Blackwell, The Arts & Crafts House? With inviting window seats offering stunning views across the Lake District. Inside Blackwell has a homely atmosphere, with its inglenook fireplace and benches to sit and chat in front of the fire, as well as many original decorative features, including a rare hessian wall-hangings. SAWREY

Hawkshead 2 miles.

The village of Sawrey is situated two miles from Hawkshead down the eastern side of Esthwaite Water, overlooked by the woods and tarns of Claife Heights. Sawrey consists of two separate hamlets - Near Sawrey and Far Sawrey - both with a cluster of picturesque cottages, tea rooms and pubs. Near Sawrey is famous for Hill Top, the 17th century farmhouse where Beatrix Potter wrote her acclaimed children's stories. Now a museum, owned and run by the National Trust, Hill Top is one of the most visited houses in the Lake District. Far Sawrey is the hamlet furthest away from Hawkshead and the nearest to the ferry point on Windermere. It offers a church and pub/restaurant with a beer garden. There are good walks in the area, including those to Claife Heights and in Grizedale Forest. It's also a great base for enjoying a wide variety of typical Lakeland pursuits - with watersports close at hand on Lake Windermere, fishing on nearby Esthwaite Water and, of course, fell walking.
