“Always love St Giles for the location and nice spacious homely cottage.”

Few issues this time. Heated towel rail in shower room wasn't working on arrival, also toilet handle broken and top of shower hose was coming away plus the electric fan heater cut out after 20 seconds. Maintenance person visited right away after our initial report which was appreciated but unfortunately despite returning during the week a note was left simply informing us the towel rail was broken. We did not receive any further details on this or the electric heater problem until the day before we left and it would have been helpful if we had been notified beforehand the reason for the delayed repairs. Hopefully the problem would have been sorted for the next guests but sadly we had a very chilly downstairs shower room during our stay. Communication could have been more informative and helpful in this instance. However, the rest of the house was lovely and warm and we were so pleased to have the use of the Leisure Passes back again which is always a wonderful bonus and much appreciated. Thank you.

“We loved the position of the cottage (Britannia pub & walks etc.”

) loved the views from the sitting room & master bedroom & the layout of the cottage was brilliant as there is good separation between master & bathroom and the two double singles & shower room. Loads of coat hooks & space for shoes/boots & wardrobe space/drawers terrific. Parking was also better than some rentals (better road clearance). Improvements recommended would be mattress in master..sorry, but it was terrible and if you have back issues you would be in trouble. Kitchen, appliances generally very tired (microwave rusty on inside) washing machine does not do a wash, drain & spin (you have to turn the dial for each function. We did not initially realise, opened door & water went everywhere). Sitting room rug could do with a clean or replacement. Hairdryer would be helpful.

“Great position for walks.”

House comfortable. In need of little tlc. Informed rather late about there being no access to leisure centre - luckily the weather was fine but in previous holidays this has been an important part of our stay.

“Great and prompt response to small problem with leaking bathroom tap.”

Sorted almost immediately, brilliant service. Could do with new cooker, as appeared that thermostat wasn't working quite right in the oven which was sometimes bit of a problem. Having stayed at St. Giles on many occasions over the past 5 years, we love the house and location (missed the leisure passes but understandably we accept the restrictions due to covid) but very sad and disappointed to see the weekly cost for the same period has now risen by almost £400.00 which is a huge increase and no improvements are evident to justify this. Also, we used to receive a 5% discount on our repeat bookings which was a lovely personal touch, but again sadly this has now ceased.

“We had a good week and the good weather helped!”

In our feedback we have said the cottage met expectations. However there were one of two things which could be improved upon. 1. We were unable to use the complimentary leisure club passes as when we rang they appeared to be totally unaware of these passes and didn’t ring us back (also there were only 3 not 4 passes in the property). 2.We thought the cottage facilities were quite basic compared to other properties we have rented before in the Lake District. Not much in terms of kitchen cupboard storage and actual kitchen space, white goods a bit tired looking. 2. The settees could do with a ‘spring clean’. 3. space for parking outside the garage was very tight. All in all St Giles could be great all it needs is a bit of tlc

Nestling in the heart of picturesque Elterwater village this traditional stone-built cottage has much to offer the Lake District visitor and will make an ideal base from which to explore the wonderful walking and majestic scenery in the surrounding Langdale area. There is much to challenge the serious walkers with some of the finest high fell walks easily accessible in the central fells and for easier days you can enjoy delightful riverside rambles, two good pubs and various tea shops within walking distance, or simply relax in the pool at the nearby Langdale Club. Chapel Stile (about 1 mile) has a well stocked village shop with everything for your holiday needs. Accommodation: This interesting cottage is a conversion of stables belonging to the former (19thC) Gunpowder Works. Front door entrance via a few steps up to new patio area and then a further couple of steps into the entrance hallway where there is space for outdoor gear. Two steps down lead into the open plan kitchen/sitting dining room (open fire, Wi-Fi, TV, DVD) which has pleasant views from its south facing window. There are two ground floor twin bedrooms accessed from the hallway and a useful shower room (shower, basin and wc). Upstairs you will find a comfortable double bedded room with interesting roof lines and pretty views across the valley. The family bathroom has bath, hand-held shower, basin and wc. St. Giles is comfortable without being trendy; cosy and well equipped for holiday use, whilst retaining much of its original character. It has been popular for many years with those looking for a central location from which to explore the National Park and to enjoy the fine scenery in any season of the year. Guests can enjoy inclusive membership (for 4 persons) of the nearby Langdale Leisure Club which is within walking distance - extra daily passes are available from the club at £15/£20 per adult per day or £10 per child (15 and under) per day. (VALID UNTIL MAY 2022) Outside: New patio area with seating to the side of the house. Parking either in the garage or just in front. Pub 100 yards, local bus stop in the village, village shop half a mile.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force.
