The property

Mere Syke is a truly delightful holiday home nestled in the heart of the Lake District. This spacious country houses dates from the late 19th century and was once the Dower House for the High Close Country Estate, taking up the major portion of Mere Syke with a small adjoining ‘coachman’s cottage’. Retaining a host of period features, Mere Syke has been brought into the 21st century with modern flourishes, catering to all your holiday needs. You will be spoiled for choice with the many walks and rambles from the door and with Elterwater village just a short stroll away, you can enjoy sampling the local cuisine at The Britannia and The Eltermere Hotel, both serving excellent food. A handy and well-stocked village shop at Chapel Stile has most things you will need and is just one miles away, and there is a good local bus service down the valley if you want to do any of the major walks without using your car. Accommodation : The entrance porch/boot room opens into an impressive entrance hall leading through into the open plan kitchen/family dining room with doors to the terrace, garden and fine views (TV). Separate utility room with lots of hanging space for outdoor gear. There are two sitting rooms for relaxing in. One a library style, tasteful and relaxing dual aspect room with two windows and doors to the terrace, overlooking the surrounding peaks, featuring three sofas and stereo. The other an entertainment room also with doors to the terrace (corner sofa, TV with full sky package, DVDs). Both rooms have feature decorative fireplaces. The property also has board games and jigsaws for your entertainment. An oak staircase leads to the first floor where there are four bedrooms. The master super-king corner room has beautiful views to the Langdale Pikes and Wetherlam, and is en-suite with walk in shower, basin and WC. Bedroom two also has wonderful views, a king-size bed and an en-suite shower room, whilst bedroom three is also a king-size and has an en-suite with bath, basin and WC. The fourth bedroom is a twin and would delight the younger members of your party with its selection of toys and games, served by the family bathroom with a double walk-in shower, basin and WC. Mere Syke comes with many extra touches including underfloor heating to the ground floor and courtesy lighting in several areas. Beautifully chosen colours and fabrics are a real feature. The kitchen TV has Freeview while the main TV has Sky sports, movies etc. This is a house of style and comfort made for holiday relaxation in beautiful surroundings. Outside: A wide terrace makes a perfect place to sit out and dine al fresco. Mature south facing garden areas on various levels with paths and steps with stunning views. Quiet watchers may see rabbits and deer as well as a host of different birds. Parking for two/three cars in a parking bay alongside the drive. 10 min walk to The Britannia Inn and shop approx 1 mile.

A delightful, rural village nestled right in the heart of the beautiful Lake District National Park. Chapel Stile is an excellent hidden gem, set at the bottom of a stunning valley, flanked on one side by the River Brathay, surrounded by incredible scenery and filled with wonderful slate and stone buildings. The village offers a traditional church from the mid 1800's as well as a café, a pub and a village shop that has stood for well over 100 years. Chapel Stile is a great base for exploring this National Park, with easy access to a number of sights and fells worth visiting. You must go to the lovely neighbouring village of Elterwater and stand on the Skelwith Bridge and simply take in the views. Nearby are the fantastic Lake District towns of Ambleside and Kendal are withing a short driving distance, offering excellent views, buildings and so much to do. For you outdoors people, make sure you visit Bowness-on-Windermere, with its incredible lake activities and so much to do; it's perfect for families.
