“This was a beautiful property - really well finished and furnished and the views were breathtaking!”

Cosy living room good for snuggling up in, spacious comfy bedrooms, and an amazing shower in the bathroom. My only criticism would be that the TV is not smart, and so we could not get Netflix or any streaming service on it. We couldn't find a HDMI cable or DVD player either, so we weren't really able to watch tv or films, which was a bit sad in the evenings. However, it did make us read our books and play more games, so if you don't mind unplugging it isn't a massive issue. Other than that the ...

“We had the most amazing stay at Greenstyles.”

The cottage was perfect and so homely we all felt so sad leaving that we have already booked again for next year. The beds and sofa's are so comfy, the bathroom is lovely, it is so cosy and beautifully decorated it really is home from home. We didn't really get a chance to spend time in the huge garden but the views of the garden can be seen all around the cottage. Cannot wait to go back in Spring 2022! Mark and Kate Collins

“The cottage was really lovely and in a perfect location, close to Bowness but isolated enough that it was really quiet throughout the day.”

It was spotlessly clean when we arrived and had everything we needed for a week's stay. The garden is beautiful and well kept, really enjoyed my morning coffee. Highly recommend this cottage as a good base for exploring the lakes and spending time with friends/family.

“Greenstyles was the most perfect property and getaway, it was a real home from home that was spotlessly clean and exceeded expectation.”

It is beautifully decorated and the photos really don’t do it justice. It is quiet in a rural setting with amazing walks from the doorstep and yet only minutes from the shops and town. It is really well equipped with everything you need and even had sharp knives which from experience is rare in a rental property. If you are looking for a luxury Lake District getaway the. You really won’t find anything better, we can’t wait to return.

The property

Nestled just on the outskirts of Bowness yet set in rolling fields and fells. Greenstyles is a quaint traditional Lakeland cottage full of charm, with great views of the mountains and of Lake Windermere. A very impressive property finished to the highest standard, the owners have created the perfect holiday retreat for friends and families. This beautiful cottage has a kitchen with arch through to the dining room, sitting room with log burner, garden room, three bedrooms and a family bathroom. Downstairs cloakroom with basin and WC, large utility room. With beautiful views across the large garden to the fells and beyond, walks from the door and an abundance of wildlife, Greenstyles is just five minutes drive from Bowness-on-Windermere and easy access to the central Lake District. This is certainly more than just a holiday cottage, this is an experience that is not to be missed. Accommodation As you step into the cottage through the solid wooden front door, you enter a spacious hallway, with sitting room to the right and the pretty light and bright kitchen and dining room to the left. The well equipped kitchen with an electric Aga oven and four ring electric hob, stylish Smeg fridge freezer and Neff dishwasher has everything you need to cook up that hearty breakfast or celebration meal. Walk through the arch into the dining room where friends and families will gather over many a meal to relax, socialise and celebrate. Light streams in through a wall of fell-view windows, where a glazed stable style door also provides access to the outside space, ideal for mid-summer meals alfresco. Across the hall is the sitting room with feature rustic beams. Choose from the comfortable sofas or window seats offering a choice of places to relax, chat, read or alternatively watch TV in front of the log burning stove. Such a cosy room. From the sitting room, glazed double doors lead through into the garden room, with access to the large, mature garden. A choice of sofas awaits you, perfect for afternoon tea or indeed just relaxing and reading the paper. Windows on three sides provide views of the surrounding fields and fells. The staircase leads to the three bedrooms. All the bedrooms have pretty cottage windows, which frame the views. The first bedroom has a super king bed, the second has a king size bed and the third is a single room, with views of the lake and fells. These rooms are complemented by a large, smart family bathroom with fabulous views of the lake and the fells, a double walk-in shower, vanity unit with twin basins and WC. On the ground floor is a good sized utility room with washing machine and drier, iron and ironing board. You'll also find a heated towel rail to enable you to dry any wet coats. To the rear of the cottage is the fabulous, large garden with an extensive lawned area, mature trees and bushes; great for exploring and enjoying the views. An area with garden furniture is a great place to have breakfast in the morning on a sunny day or indeed in the evening. A must for those clear days not to mention a glass or two in the evening gazing at the stars - the perfect antidote after a long walk! There is also a small garden to the front and private parking on the driveway (one large or two smaller cars), with a third parking space if required on a gravelled area just off to the side of the garden. Please note that the owners do stay at the property with their dog. Beds are presented as super king or king beds in bedrooms 1 and 2, however it is possible to have these bedrooms presented as twin beds to meet your party's specific need but please specify your requirements when booking to ensure they are correctly presented prior to your arrival. Location Greenstyles is in a quiet rural location in open countryside yet just five or six minutes’ drive (2.0 mls) from the centre of Bowness-on-Windermere, the popular Lake District holiday location, nestling on the eastern shore of Lake Windermere and alive with all the boating activities of Bowness Bay. Enjoy great shops, tempting cafes, excellent Lake District restaurants, cosy traditional pubs, contemporary bars or stroll to the pier to hop on a Windermere Lake Cruise to Ambleside or Lakeside - a lovely way to enjoy Lake Windermere at any time of year. Family attractions in Bowness include the award-winning World of Beatrix Potter attraction - a favourite with the kids. You'll also find mini golf and tennis near the lake shore, and Windermere Golf Club just a few minutes' drive out of the village. There are a wide range of cafes and restaurants in Bowness, to suit all tastes and budgets. From top quality Fish & Chips to fine dining, there's something to please everyone. Bowness also has a mainstream cinema and the Old Laundry Theatre offers an interesting programme of performances. Slightly closer to Greenstyles (1.5 mls) is the small village of Winster in the beautiful Winster and Lythe valley, famous for its damsons. The nearest pub is the award winning Brown Horse in Winster. Another famous neighbour of Greenstyles (just 0.5 mls) is Blackwell, the Arts and Crafts house, designed for the wealthy Manchester brewer Sir Edward Holt by architect Baillie Scott. This simply stunning property is considered to be one of the finest examples of the Arts and Crafts movement and is open to the public to enjoy all year round. Great café too!

The vibrant twin towns of Bowness and Windermere hold enduring appeal for visitors to the Lake District National Park, with each providing a range of nearby attractions, amenities, shops and restaurants to suit all tastes. A variety of boat trips and boat hire are available from Windermere Lake Cruises in Bowness to Brockhole, Ambleside and Lakeside (at the southern end of the lake where the Lakeside Aquarium and the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway are situated). The World of Beatrix Potter attraction and the Old Laundry theatre are 1.5 miles away. Orrest Head, where Alfred Wainwright was inspired to write his series of iconic guidebooks, is a 30-minute walk to enjoy the spectacular panorama of far-reaching views over the lake and surrounding fells. Brockhole, which offers high wire tree top experiences, is less than two miles away, and the historic villages of Grasmere, Ambleside and Troutbeck are a short drive away. There are also a variety of watersports on offer for the more energetic at marine centres along the lake. The area is ideally situated for exploring all that this region has to offer, whether by foot, bike, car, railway or bus; and is within easy reach of attractions such as the spectacular Langdales, Beatrix Potter’s Hill Top House at Far Sawrey, Coniston, Grizedale Forest Park, with its delightful walks and famous outdoor sculptures, mountain biking and “Go-Ape” adventure park, Ullswater, Kendal, Keswick, stone circles, Roman forts and England's highest mountain, Scafell Pike.
