“This was our first time at Tipsy Gin Cottage.”

Having stayed at a number of self catering cottages in The Lakes before, we feel confident in saying that TGC is so far the best. The cottage is beautifully designed for a couple and has the highest quality finish throughout the property. It is also in a wonderful location if you value peace and quiet whilst a reasonably car journey from main town centres such as Kendal, Ambleside and Cartmel. The cottage is also ideally located for walks, short, long, challenging or relaxing. If you're lucky the David and Sarah's dog, Ollie, will take you on a walk across the fells as he did us on our first day here. If, like us, you are "foodies" there are plethora of excellent gastro pubs and restersunts near by. We'd strongly recommend The Punch Bowl and The Ploughman. All in all, we had a fantastic and restful week and can't wait to come back again to continue our foodie adventures.

Location This fabulous self-catering property in the Lyth Valley takes you away from busier Lake District holiday locations, and into a divine rural landscape all of your own that has been included by Lonely Planet list of “the most beautiful places on earth”. The Lyth Valley lies behind Cartmel Fell to the east of Lake Windermere. The valley is known for its serene agricultural landscapes, its vibrant damson blossom (and harvest – look out for locally made damson jam and damson gin from the valley in the local artisan food and farm shops) in spring, and its widely-acclaimed Lake District gastropubs including The Punchbowl at Crosthwaite and The Mason's Arms at Strawberry Bank and Hare and Hounds at Bowland Bridge. The Lyth Valley with its excellent bar and restaurant are a five minute walk away. This unspoilt medieval village of Cartmel is situated in a quiet valley in one of England's most outstanding areas of natural beauty on the fringe of the Lake District National Park is only a fifteen minute drive from Durham Bridge Barn. Offering stunning views of the South Lakeland District fells and countryside, Cartmel has grown up around its famous 12th Century medieval Priory Church. It is a special place where ancient history and tradition mingle effortlessly with the present day.Although steeped in history, Cartmel is not trapped in time and the village offers today's visitors many modern surprises in the form of fine quality attractions, shops, a wide variety of traditional Lakeland inns and cutting edge gourmet restaurants including the internationally acclaimed Michelin Star restaurant, L'Enclume. Around the village square you will discover a delightful assortment of genuine 16th - 18th century buildings. All this and the famous Cartmel racecourse providing national hunt racing in its most original format is just off the center of the village square. With its party crowds and funfair, Cartmel rekindles the social gathering tradition of the original steeple to steeple chases. A picture postcard sleepy village so close to the southern tip of Lake Windermere with everything you could wish for.
