The property

Middlefell Farm is a picturesque and traditional stone built Lakeland hill farm, nestling quaintly under the Langdale Pikes at the head of the beautiful Langdale Valley. The farmstead, which was built at the turn of the 17th century, extends to some 260 acres in all with over one thousand Herdwick sheep and a mixed herd of beef cattle. The atmosphere is idyllic with so many wonderful walks in the area, and the dramatic mountains all around. Great Langdale truly offers some of the finest mountain scenery in Lakeland, a 'must' for every visitor. The cottage was created from part of the original farmhouse to provide a cosy and well-equipped cottage interior in this lovely old building with its low ceilings and doorways. Accommodation: Ground floor sitting room (TV - reception variable, satellite TV) with electric fire. An open fire is available all year round if required (logs and coal provided). Well-equipped 'cottage style' fitted dining kitchen - fully equipped (electric cooker). Upstairs there are two bedrooms - one double with wash basin and one twin - both with slightly sloping floors reflecting the great age of the cottage. Bathroom (walk-in shower, basin and wc). Fitted carpets and comfy cottage style furnishings with co-ordinated fabrics. The cottage is ideal for all year round use. Garden with garden furniture. Ample parking. Outside: Garden with garden furniture. Ample parking. Well-stocked village shop and post office in Chapel Stile (3 miles). Short stroll to the nearest pub 'The Old Dungeon Ghyll', which serves both bar and restaurant meals. Other pubs nearby include 'The New Dungeon Ghyll' at the foot of the paths to Stickle Tarn, and 'Wainwrights' in Chapel Stile a little further down the valley. Note: The property is fed by natural purified spring water. Sorry, no cot or high chair available.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.

About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
