The property

Fair Cop is an impressive Victorian-built old police station and courthouse right off the centre of Hawkshead hamlet; add in a creative architect to rebuild the structure; and add in a local craftsman builder to complete the inventive renovations, and you have something truly unique. This fascinating cottage was created using the original police cells from its rich history. The popular village of Hawkshead, with its character buildings, lovely shops, fine pubs, and places to dine, is one of the most beloved destinations in the National Park and provides for a wonderful home base for a Lake District holiday any time of year. There are beautiful hikes right outside the door, in nearby Grizedale Forest and at Tarn Hows, and in other parts of the region as well. The lodging features a front door that opens onto a foyer, perfect for storing your hiking gear. The chic living room/dining area has original strong walls and vaulted brick ceilings that are complemented by French windows and a multi-fuel burning stove, as well as a Smart TV with Freeview. There are two uncovered passages that connect directly to the fully-equipped kitchen. A well-presented king-size bedroom awaits at the end of the day, along with a sleek bathroom for freshening up. Fair Cop is tastefully decorated all around with high-quality furnishings, and visitors will appreciate its proximity to the area's finest hotels and boutiques. From the rear courtyard, accessible via French windows, you can see the hills beyond the village, including Fairfield, in the distance. One reserved parking spot available. The village centre is a short, level stroll away. This property doesn’t accept children. Adventure awaits at Fair Cop.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.

About the location

HAWKSHEAD

Ambleside 5.1 miles; Kendal 17.4 miles.

The picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Visitors can wander the wealth of tiny alleyways, thoroughfares, archways and courtyards between the whitewashed 17th century houses. There are many pleasant inns, teashops, guest houses and gift shops in the village, as well as the Beatrix Potter Gallery, which houses an annually changing exhibition of the famous author’s illustrations and stories. The other famous Hawkshead enthusiast, William Wordsworth, attended the Old Grammar School in 1779-87, which still stands today, and you can visit the building where the Lakeland poet developed his love of the form, and even see the desk into which he scratched his name as a small boy! Newby Bridge is ten miles away and offers attractions such as the Aquarium of the Lakes and Windermere Lake Cruises, sailing daily between Ambleside, Bowness and Lakeside. With stunning scenery and numerous attractions within easy touring distance, Hawkshead is in an ideal location at any time of the year.
