Set on the cobbled courtyard this pretty cottage was once part of the stable block and carriage house of the neighbouring manor house. Located in the little hamlet of Clappersgate just a 15-minute walk from the centre of the popular village of Ambleside, this pretty cottage is well presented and offers a cosy retreat whatever the time of year With a cosy and welcoming lounge, a choice of two bedrooms, complemented by a shower room and a family bathroom and with a well equipped kitchen, private outdoor seating and a shared riverside garden with BBQ area and river access, the cottage makes the ideal place from which you can explore the Lake District on foot, by car, by bike or canoe and in an evening enjoy a stroll to the bars and restaurants that can be found ain Ambleside or at Waterhead on the shores of Lake Windermere Accommodation In Detail The front door opens on to the pretty lounge, with comfortable leather sofas arranged around the feature fireplace homely gas fire, dining table and large screen Smart TV. Two steps from here lead to the first of the two bedrooms, a pretty twin bedded room which is complemented by the adjacent bathroom with bath, basin and WC. To the side of the living room is the kitchen which, when you open the large outer stable door, allows the light to flood in. This fitted shaker style kitchen is equipped with gas hob, electric oven, fridge with freezer box, dishwasher and washer drier. Beyond the kitchen there is a small shower room with shower cubicle basin and WC. On the first floor is the dual aspect master bedroom with a little balcony, and kingsize feature bed. To the side of the cottage is a small private outdoor seating area with bistro garden furniture. Guests also have access to the shared riverside garden directly across the road which is a lovely place to relax on a summers afternoon and BBQ the evening and from here steps lead down to the River Brathay that flows directly to Lake Windermere. Guests are respectfully reminded that the river can flow swiftly at any time of year subject to the weather and as such young children should not be left unattended in the garden. Location The property is found within the small hamlet of Clappersgate, just to the west of Ambleside village and on the way to the Langdale Valley. Only a 10 minute walk away, Ambleside is historic and attractive. Ambleside is a popular Lake District village, taking a very scenic location on the northern shores of Lake Windermere and surrounded by a dramatic backdrop of Lakeland Fells. It's a superb choice for couples or groups, who'll enjoy being able to explore on foot and sample the very best of Lakeland village life! In Ambleside village centre, you'll find sophisticated shopping and fabulous eating - an array of cafes, restaurants and traditional pubs await. Ambleside also has two cinema venues, adding to a wide range of choices for romantic or sociable evenings out!Why not take a cruise on Lake Windermere during your stay? Windermere Lake Cruises depart regularly from Ambleside Pier at Waterhead, which is just a stroll from the cottage - a great way to explore Bowness and Lakeside without having to drive.Ambleside is a super base for walking in the Lake District, and the scenery is a constant source of inspiration for those who are packing their boots! Touring by car is scenic in every direction from your holiday cottage in Ambleside. Follow the A591 north past tranquil Rydal Water to historic Grasmere, and visit such attractions as the former home of William Wordsworth at Dove Cottage and The Wordsworth Museum. The A591 also leads easily south to Troutbeck Bridge, Windermere and on to Bowness. Ambleside is a fantastic central base whether you wish to hike in the fells, tour the Lake District's scenic areas or simply explore the charms of the local area.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
