    “Just amazing - the view of the lake, a roe deer wandering through the garden on our first evening, and the house itself is lovely.”

    Huge, tastefully decorated and furnished and really practical (plenty of kitchen equipment and a great utility room). It's also really convenient for town just a short walk away. Couldn't find any fault - apart from the fact we had to leave!

The property

The first thing you will notice as you walk through this beautifully appointed property is the stunning panoramic vistas to the north and south of Lake Windermere and it's westerly hills visible from both lounges and the kitchen/dining area. The breath-taking scenery continues through the windows of one of the two master en-suite bedrooms, the other having a delightful view of Watendlath's dell and up towards Post Knott. Watendlath is named after a small hamlet and tarn in the northern lakes but there is nothing small about this amazing property. A beautiful, spacious, stylish house offering the best of both worlds being located on a small, tranquil, private road but also very conveniently situated a few minutes walk into Bowness village with it's abundance of restaurants, cafes, pubs and shops. Just 8 minutes stroll takes you down to Windermere Marina Village or by car it's only a minutes drive to the ferry link across the lake to Sawrey. This offers our guests quick and easy access to Grizedale, Hawkshead and Coniston. Watendlath is indeed an ideal location to explore the 'Heart of the Lakes'. Built in 1936, Watendlath has been fully modernised and extended in recent years and has been completely refurbished.. All rooms apart from the first floor sitting room, accessed via a spiral staircase, are on the ground floor making it ideal for guests with limited mobility. The main lounge offers a high level of comfort with inspired, stylish seating. Sofas are appointed around the wood burning stove and flat screen TV for cosy evenings while additional soft furnishings face out onto the well stocked, stunning south facing garden, large patio area and of course the lake view. With two very generously appointed, en-suite king-size bedrooms and a twin bedroom with separate bathroom, all guests can really enjoy their own space and privacy. Staying at Watendlath it is easy to leave the cars behind and enjoy the many, varied activities that Bowness has to offer with lake cruises, the boating bay, visitor centre, cycle hire and tennis courts to name a few. Whilst it's an ideal location for exploring all of the lakes, there are a good variety of lovely walks straight from the door. Accommodation: Upon arrival you can immediately appreciate the beautifully landscaped gardens. A couple of steps up to the entrance porch into the large open hall with double height beamed ceiling. Spacious lounge with two comfortable seating areas, 48" Flat screen TV, Wi-fi, (BT Infinity), Bluetooth audio system, wood burning stove and panoramic view of Lake Windermere. Patio doors lead straight out into the south facing sun terrace and the stunning, stepped gardens. To the right of the main lounge there is a fantastic dining kitchen with a large utility/drying room adjacent. The beautiful fell-view master bedroom is off the small rear hallway, has a king-size sleigh-bed, en-suite bath with shower over, basin and wc. From the main hall there is a further twin bedroom and family bathroom (shower, basin and wc). The lake-view, king- sized master bedroom has a large en-suite with bath, separate walk in shower, basin and wc. Upstairs there is a 'mezzanine' lounge accessible via the spiral staircase offering further magnificent lake views plus a second TV and DVD player. Watendlath is extremely warm and welcoming making it an ideal base in any season. Outside: From the driveway, steps lead down to an adventurous sloping garden (children should be supervised). At the rear of the property is a large south facing patio area with furniture to seat six and a lovingly kept garden is accessed down steps or ramped path. Kettle BBQ. The vibrant twin towns of Bowness and Windermere hold enduring appeal for visitors to the Lake District National Park, with each providing a range of nearby attractions, amenities, shops and restaurants to suit all tastes. A variety of boat trips and boat hire are available from Windermere Lake Cruises in Bowness to Brockhole, Ambleside and Lakeside (at the southern end of the lake where the Lakeside Aquarium and the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway are situated). The World of Beatrix Potter attraction and the Old Laundry theatre are 1.5 miles away. Orrest Head, where Alfred Wainwright was inspired to write his series of iconic guidebooks, is a 30-minute walk to enjoy the spectacular panorama of far-reaching views over the lake and surrounding fells. Brockhole, which offers high wire tree top experiences, is less than two miles away, and the historic villages of Grasmere, Ambleside and Troutbeck are a short drive away. There are also a variety of watersports on offer for the more energetic at marine centres along the lake.
