“There is a lot to like about High Biggin - it's old and quirky, very spacious, has lots of nice features and is in a lovely location overlooking Lake Windermere.”

It was also warm and cosy with the aga based heating system. Having said that, it was described as luxury accommodation but it's quite tired and in need of some refurbishment in a few areas. For example there were a number of cracked panes of glass throughout the house, lots of cracked tiles on the kitchen floor and lights not working or without bulbs making parts of the house quite dark at night . The biggest bugbear for us was dealing with rubbish. The bins were all full to overflowing when ...

For example there were a number of cracked panes of glass throughout the house, lots of cracked tiles on the kitchen floor and lights not working or without bulbs making parts of the house quite dark at night . The biggest bugbear for us was dealing with rubbish. The bins were all full to overflowing when we arrived. One large double bin was removed to halfway down the long and very steep driveway, and was emptied during our stay, but it was not returned to the bin location outside the house. This made dealing with rubbish quite tricky for us having a small child still in nappies and two birthdays being celebrated during our stay. There was also no recycling guidance that we could see. Although we had an enjoyable week, I'm not sure we would choose to stay there again!

If you are looking for a special treat for your family holiday, maybe for a special occasion - a birthday or anniversary celebration or simply a luxurious getaway in which to recharge your batteries - you have found it in High Biggin. This picturesque property lies to the south side of Bowness in an enviable elevated position with stunning lake views from the terrace and main windows. Built in the late 19thC it offers a wealth of character features, which the owners have enhanced with tasteful and sympathetic modern styling and up-to-the-minute fittings of a very high quality. This is the kind of holiday home you dream of finding and we cannot recommend it highly enough. The quality of this outstanding property is also confirmed by the fact that it has received a 5 Star Gold Award from Visit Britain.
