  • “Really enjoyed our weeks stay at Hillcrest despite the poor weather.”

Only disappointment was when we looked to book same week next year only to find it had jumped from around £630 to £1000 with booking fee for same week. Expected a small increase but not that much. Needless to say we will look elsewhere

The property

Hillcrest is a spacious cottage style bungalow - a truly delightful holiday home. The quite rural setting provides beautiful views across the fields. Sit and enjoy the south-facing terrace overlooking the garden to truly relax and feel at home. Hillcrest is situated to the south of Hawkshead in a small hamlet called Roger Ground. From here it is a short flat walk along a delightful footpath across the fields to Hawkshead church and village which has an abundance of small shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants. You can enjoy walking from the cottage to Grizedale Forest, Coniston, Tarn Hows and the Beatrix Potter village of Near Sawrey to name just a few. Accommodation: Hillcrest has been lovingly refurbished to provide the highest quality in comfort and warmth and to include every amenity. Internally there are three bedrooms one double en-suite (shower, basin and wc), a second spacious double with king-sized bed and beautiful views over the fields, and a delightful twin room. Large bathroom with shower over bath, basin and wc. Well-equipped kitchen leads to the adjoining breakfast room - ideal for family meals and entertaining. The living room is large and comfortably furnished with flat screen Sky TV, DVD, CD, iPod docking station, free wi-fi and wood burning stove providing further charm and character. Gas central heating throughout making Hillcrest warm and cosy. Large picture windows take full advantage of the garden and distant views. The back door entrance leads down three steps to the terrace, which is a real sun trap. Great thought and attention has been given to detail and finish to provide a truly relaxing home from home whatever the weather - a cottage for all seasons. Outside: Private driveway with ample parking for two/three cars. Hillcrest is detached and offers a good degree of privacy with peace and quiet. The garden has been designed to take full advantage of the views to the rear towards Sawrey and the fells and seasonal views of Esthwaite Water. At the front a raised terrace looks over the mountains to Kirkstone Pass. Shopping and eating out in Hawkshead - less than a mile.

About the location

Ambleside 4 miles; Kendal 24 miles.

The picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Visitors can wander the wealth of tiny alleyways, thoroughfares, archways and courtyards between the whitewashed 17th century houses. There are many pleasant inns, teashops, guest houses and gift shops in the village, as well as the Beatrix Potter Gallery, which houses an annually changing exhibition of the famous author’s illustrations and stories. The other famous Hawkshead enthusiast, William Wordsworth, attended the Old Grammar School in 1779-87, which still stands today, and you can visit the building where the Lakeland poet developed his love of the form, and even see the desk into which he scratched his name as a small boy! Newby Bridge is ten miles away and offers attractions such as the Aquarium of the Lakes and Windermere Lake Cruises, sailing daily between Ambleside, Bowness and Lakeside. With stunning scenery and numerous attractions within easy touring distance, Hawkshead is in an ideal location at any time of the year.
