“Thank you for a lovely safe and relaxing place to stay.”

It’s been a difficult year and I needed a base to visit friends, recharge my batteries and walk. I’m a keen photographer and the location was perfect for walking from the door and far enough from the centre of Ambleside to feel safe in terms of covid interactions. Loved the view out the back. Would book again.

The cottage is ideally situated for walking from the door and the many local shops. We will definitely return for another visit soon.

“Really enjoyed our stay.”

Cottage was cosy and lovely and warm. It was very well equipped and there were a lot of unexpected touches like dvds, cds to watch and listen to. Only drawback was it’s position - I have some mobility issues and would not have booked this cottage if I’d realised it was up a hill! A radio in the 2nd bedroom would also have been useful.

Regarding access to the cottage itself, there is an easy level walk into town across the Green opposite Rock Lea, through a passageway and onto North Road, which leads directly into Ambleside centre. “Awesome property.”

Really clean, had everything we needed. It was just like a home from home. So many times we've been away to a property and theres been little kitchen items or towels etc... not here ,,, it's all bob on and clean,,, brilliant ! Parking is actually fine if at first it seemed a bit squashed. Close to the centre but not so close you hear any drunken noise at night or busy roads in the day. Would highly recommend

“The TA centre next door is not mentioned as it is very noisy when they are there late at night and early morning.”

Parking is okay as you have your own space but it is so busy up there as house next door is being renovated and work vans park anywhere they can. Cottage needs a good clean as cobwebs everywhere and hairs all over the carpets. Lack of clothing hanging space when there for 2 weeks and not much space to keep food.

'This is a very small traditional slate hut (and NOT a centre) opposite the cottage and used occasionally for overnight stays only. Generally these stays are of short duration (1-2 nights) numbers are restricted to 6 guests at the moment. Noise is strictly controlled after hours due to the residential location. Rock Lea is in one of the quietest areas in Ambleside.' Property Owner

Rock Lea is a lovely traditional slate cottage, built in 1903 and is the end cottage of a row of six situated in the quiet conservation area of Ambleside, known as The Green. Only a short walk to the centre of Ambleside, Rock Lea provides peace and tranquillity from its quiet location. There is private parking for one car directly outside the cottage and for those travelling to the Lakes without a car the cottage is only a short stroll from the bus stop with links direct to Windermere station.There are many low and high level walks from the doorstep including the lower paths to Rydal and Grasmere and the higher peaks of Wansfell and the Fairfield Horseshoe ? so there is no need to use the car at all! a couple of minutes' walk from the cottage are a number of excellent traditional Lakeland Inns and Ambleside centre has a wealth of shops, excellent restaurants, cafes and the award winning Zeffirellis Cinema & Restaurant for films, live music and good food. Accommodation: Entrance into porch with room to store coats and boots. Comfortable and cosy lounge (Smart TV with Freeview, DVD, CD, IPod dock and log burning stove). Modern well-equipped kitchen to the rear of the house with door to rear patio and shared garden. Upstairs are two bedrooms; one double and one single and a shower room with basin and wc. There are also stunning views over Loughrigg from the kitchen, rear bedroom and shared garden area at the rear.The cottage provides accommodation for a family of three, and has been sympathetically restored by its owners to very high standard, retaining much of its original character with a wood burning stove for winter evenings, slate floors and oak doors all combined with modern facilities. Outside: Small private patio with seating for summer evenings with views of the sun setting over Loughrigg Fell, and access to a pretty shared garden. Near the back door is a slate shed which can be used to securely lock away your bikes. Ambleside and all amenities 2 mins walk.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
