The property

This three floor Victorian property, located in a very quiet street in central Ambleside, offers the ideal central holiday home. Millans Garth has kept some of its original Victorian charm with original slate stone hearths, quarry-tile flooring in the dining room, picture rail and high ceilings. There is a view towards the Fairfield horseshoe from the rear of the property and only a 200 yard walk into the village. Ambleside has everything for your daily needs, interesting local shops plus an array of cafes, bistros, local pubs, and up-market restaurants offering a range of cuisines to suit every taste and pocket. There is a cinema showing all the latest films. In addition to the surrounding walks and rambles there are numerous daytime activities including mountain bike hire, tennis, bowls, pitch and putt, and of course the delights of a cruise or boat hire on beautiful Lake Windermere, England's largest lake. Accommodation: From the long hallway enter the lounge on the right, with TV (Freeview), DVD, Wi-Fi (fast fibre), comfy seating, slate hearth and a log burner. The large dining room with stone hearth and gas stove fire leads to the well-equipped galley kitchen with access to the rear yard. There is a WC with basin beyond the kitchen, and a large cellar for bike storage. The first floor has a family bathroom with bath, separate shower, basin and WC, a double bedroom with views, and a large twin bedroom (the beds may be pushed together to give a 6-foot king-size bed). On the second floor there is a further spacious twin bedroom and a shower room with WC and basin. There is an additional very small single bedroom. Outside: A small rear yard with outdoor seating and a small yard/garden to the front of the property. Parking is with visitor permit on street, and a second permit to use in the local South Lakeland Council car parks, the closest being to the rear of Millans Garth.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.

About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
