“A fantastic property in an ideal location, very well equipped & comfortable with amazing views & many walks from the door.”

Been visiting Grasmere for many years & that was the best weather we've ever had. Would love to return to the Police House if the price was reduced as very expensive. It was a special celebration for us with our family so thank you so much for a very memorable week !

“Extremely disappointed that there was not a hairdryer.”

Clearly this had been a problem for other people as we found an empty hairdryer box in one of the cupboards. In 35 years of holidays in the lakes we have never had a house without a hairdryer. As we all have hairdryers at home we didn't want to buy another and even rang to ask if it would be possible to borrow one. This did spoil our experience somewhat.

“Water drained away from the upstairs bathroom and en suite basins very slowly.”

They probably need cleaning out. Very disappointing that there is not a king size bed in the upstairs main bedroom. There is room for one with small bedside tables each side. House very cosy and warm. It is very comfortable and kitchen well equiped.

“This was our second stay, excellent views and good position for the village.”

We only had six adults this year and this was comfortable, I would say that the accomodation should be listed as three adult bedrooms and a childrens room.

“Pros: fantastic cottage, great location, amazing views.”

Good customer service, they were quick to sort out a couple of issues we had. Cons: the under floor heating was on too hot. There are no instructions on how to turn it down. The thermostat were on a program and set too high. Even after speaking with customer services, I didn't feel like we knew what to do. On the other hand it was cold in the evening in the downstairs lounge. One last thing, it would be good to have a small saucepan. They were all very big. Note that the Tefal non-stick pan is badly worn and not safe to use. It should be replaced really.

The Old Police House is in an enviable location in the heart of picturesque Grasmere with stunning views. The property has been completely renovated and extended to provide a high quality, stylish and contemporary home from home Grasmere has a selection of local shops offering everything for your day to day needs, as well as a good garden centre, interesting galleries, tea-shops, pubs and restaurants. Set amid some of the most beautiful Lakeland scenery, Grasmere was home to William Wordsworth and the Dove Cottage museum attracts visitors from all over the world - he is buried in the churchyard. Outdoor lovers will relish walks including Silver How, Loughrigg, Far Easedale and Easedale Tarn and the high peaks of the Fairfield Horseshoe. Indeed with so many walks to be enjoyed in the area, for all ages and abilities, there is little need to use the car on a daily basis. About the location

GRASMERE

Ambleside 5 miles; Windermere 9 miles; Keswick 13 miles.

Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family has been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century, and Grasmere Lake. Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere, and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.
