  • “We had been looking at the property for a while, and were pleased to be able to get the week we wanted as it was an area we had visited many times but never stayed at.”

The property is in a great location in the village and had everything needed. Unfortunately after waiting so long for a holiday we only spent one night there, we originally delayed going by a day due to the flood warnings so arrived on the Sunday evening, and then on the Monday morning my partner fell on a walk, a trip to hospital, and a badly bruised / swollen ankle and was told to take complete rest for 2/3 weeks, so we sadly made the decision to drive home as would be unable to do anything ...

The property is in a great location in the village and had everything needed. Unfortunately after waiting so long for a holiday we only spent one night there, we originally delayed going by a day due to the flood warnings so arrived on the Sunday evening, and then on the Monday morning my partner fell on a walk, a trip to hospital, and a badly bruised / swollen ankle and was told to take complete rest for 2/3 weeks, so we sadly made the decision to drive home as would be unable to do anything all week apart from sit indoors. Not the holiday we had planned sadly. Only a couple of other things to list are, the kettle was broken which I rang and reported when I notified we had returned home early, also, before going I asked if the leisure club at the hotel was available to us and the email reply was that it was but I may have to call and book a swim slot etc, however when asking on the Monday morning when we walked past the hotel we were informed we were unable to use as due to covid they had closed the changing rooms and the facilities were only open to residents. Hopefully we will be able to return one day and fully enjoy the property and area.

The property

Molly's Cottage nestles in a quiet courtyard right in the centre of Grasmere village and will prove very popular with those who wish to enjoy all the village facilities whilst staying right in the heart of the Lake District. This newly renovated, double fronted cottage will make an ideal setting for a holiday in any season. Walks from the door for all ages and abilities include the high tops of the Fairfield Ridge and a longer day to the summit of Helvellyn, whilst those seeking easier rambles will enjoy the trail to Far Easedale, a scramble up The Lion and The Lamb, or the much loved Rydal Round. With ample local shops for your daily needs and various places to eat in the village you really have no need to use the car on a daily basis. There are boats to be hired on the lake in season - a picnic on the island makes a lovely gentle adventure - and of course Wordsworth's home at Dove Cottage is a 'must' on your list of things to do. Grasmere is beautiful in any season and makes an ideal base from which to explore the whole of the Lake District National Park and with the Wordsworth Hotel Leisure Club just round the corner you can make the most of your membership during your stay. Accommodation: Two steps at the front door lead into the entrance hallway. The spacious sitting/dining room has two full-height windows looking into the courtyard. The room divides nicely into a comfy seating area with two sofas and armchair (Smart TV) and the dining area that will surely be the focus of many relaxed family meals. A newly fitted kitchen leads through to the separate laundry/utility room with heated floor and ample drying space for all your gear (wc). Upstairs are three very good bedrooms - the master has a super king-size bed, the second double has a king-size bed and the third bedroom is a good sized single. Family bathroom (double-sized shower, basin and wc). The bedrooms have views over the neighbouring rooftops to the fells. The property has a quiet air of comfort, newly decorated throughout with carefully chosen fabrics in toning colours, fitted carpets upstairs and hardwood flooring in the sitting room. Outside: Parking for two cars in the courtyard outside the property. Short level stroll to shops, cafes, pub and local amenities including the leisure club.

About the location

GRASMERE

Ambleside 5 miles; Windermere 9 miles; Keswick 13 miles.

Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family have been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century and Grasmere Lake, plus Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland Wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.
