“+ Thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Dippers Bank.”

The cottage was very cosy, in a quiet location. It was exactly what I was looking for.

The cottage was very cosy, in a quiet location. It was exactly what I was looking for. - An upgrade to a smart tv would eradicate the signal disruption in bad weather,as it would utilise the broadband rather than rely on the aerial mast - despite many attempts, I couldn't set the electric fire to work. There is power going to the fire, but no heat was omitted. It could very well be user error... but it may be worth investigating.

The property

In a very quiet and pretty location only two minutes level walk from the centre of Grasmere village. Dipper's Bank is part of a short terrace of stone-built Victorian cottages reached down a tiny access-only lane and is relatively unseen by anyone other than the few residents of the neighbouring cottages. There is virtually no passing traffic. The picturesque River Rothay wends its way through Grasmere village and passes the end of the terrace. A pretty river bank footpath is accessed over a small bridge a few yards from the property whilst there are mountain and valley walks in the area to suit every capability. Grasmere has good local shops for everyday needs and numerous galleries and curiosities for those who wish to potter. Good local eating places - no need to use the car. Accommodation: The cottage is built on three floors. Ground floor entrance into well-equipped good sized dining kitchen all fitted in white. Door through to the sitting room (TV, DVD) which has a decorative fireplace. Stairs to first floor where there are two bedrooms - a good sized double bedroom to the front of the house and a pretty single to the rear. Bathroom has bath with electric shower over, basin and wc. Storage heaters throughout. Further (rather steep) stairs lead to the top floor where there is a large twin room with separate dressing area which takes up the whole of the top floor - some restricted headroom with velux windows. The cottage is tastefully furnished offering a very comfortable and warm base from which to explore the Lake District in any season. The location is very pretty with views over the river to the fells beyond. Outside: Parking for one car. Small open plan area with room for sitting outside. Walks from the door. Village centre 200 yards.

About the location

Ambleside 5 miles; Windermere 9 miles; Keswick 13 miles.

Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family have been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century and Grasmere Lake, plus Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland Wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.

Note: There are steep stairs leading to the second floor where there is some restricted headroom, please take care
