The property

It's hard to believe that you could stay so close to the centre of Grasmere village and yet feel as if you were in the heart of the countryside. Coachman's Cottage is set in a haven of tranquillity in the grounds of Ryelands, a delightful small country house where the owners live. As its name implies it was formerly the coach house and coachman's dwelling for the main house - it is built of Lakeland stone and has its own enclosed garden area and views over adjoining fields and hills to Helm Crag ('The Lion and the Lamb'). Clients who choose Coachman's Cottage will find very little need to use the car. There are so many walks to do from the door including Fairfield, Silver How, Loughrigg and the Grasmere Round, or over to Langdale and Elterwater. Grasmere really is a place for all seasons with a choice of local restaurants or pubs, interesting local shops and galleries and many opportunities for visits to all parts of the National Park. Accommodation: The accommodation is all at first floor level being accessed via outside stone steps to the front door. Entrance hall leads into the L-shaped sitting/dining room - a light and sunny space with three windows and open views (TV, DVD). There is a well-equipped kitchen with a view over the fields. There are two en-suite bedrooms. The double bedroom has an en-suite with lovely roll top bath where you can enjoy a soak after a hard day walking on the fells, basin and wc, whilst the twin room has shower, basin and wc. Furnishings are comfortable with fitted carpets throughout and attractive colours and fabrics. Gas central heating keeps you cosy and warm in any season. A separate utility/drying room on the ground floor houses the laundry facilities and is excellent for storing all your outdoor gear. The rest of the ground floor is a former barn and is not used. Outside: Enclosed and sheltered garden with small patio - garden table and chairs provided. There is a good sense of privacy. Private parking for two cars. Village shops, post office etc. in Grasmere centre all within a few hundred yards.

About the location

GRASMERE

Ambleside 5 miles; Windermere 9 miles; Keswick 13 miles.

Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family have been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century and Grasmere Lake, plus Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland Wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.
