  • “Wonderful cottage close to Grasmere village.”

    The views are fantastic from the cottage with lots of walks available from the cottage. The property retains a quaint feel to it. Large kitchen with all mod cons and ample space in other rooms. We had a great week there - if we were being very picky suggest the upstairs room ceiling may have small amount of damp from the roof guttering and whilst 3 small cars can be parked easily enough it would be difficult to park 3 larger cars but overall we loved our stay there.

Hollens Cottage overlooks the Vale of Grasmere towards Silver Howe and Helm Crag, and backs onto Stone Arthur. It's a true paradise for walkers and walking groups, but also for those who simply want to immerse themselves in the Lake District lifestyle - Grasmere village is only a short walk away. The cottage provides comfortable breathing space for up to 7 people, memorable for its air of 'countryside chic'. Exposed beams throughout, elegant country kitchen and unforgettable views through traditional bay windows. There's even a safe place for muddy boots and bikes! == Accommodation in detail Entrance hall leads into beautiful beamed lounge with views to the famous 'Lion & Lamb'. Country kitchen / dining room with family-size dining table and patio doors to private patio area. One double bedroom with king sized bed and modern bathroom on this level ground floor. The double bedroom is downstairs on lower level, with shower room and access to rear garden. Upstairs on the first floor, there is one twin bedroom, one single bedroom plus 3d WC / wash basin. The delightful cottage garden contains a utility room for drying walking gear or storing bikes. Location Right at the heart of the Lakes, Grasmere is renowned for its rural charms and links with the famous poet William Wordsworth. He lived in Grasmere, in Dove Cottage (open to the public) whilst creating his most renowned work, and was inspired by the scenery you'll enjoy from the windows of your self-catering cottage. His grave in the village, is one of the world's most visited literary shrines.Grasmere itself is a wonderful place to spend a self-catering break; a charming village centre to explore, with Lakeland art galleries, tasty delicatessens and a Co-op mini market for your self-catering kitchen, and plenty of tempting tea rooms and restaurants. Don't miss the Good Food Guide listed Jumble Room restaurant in the village. Grasmere's central location makes it ideal for day trips throughout the Lake District. Rydal Water and Ambleside are nearby, and the village sits just off one of the main navigating routes through the Lake District. For walkers, the starting point for Helvellyn is only a short drive away at Thirlmere.

Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family have been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century and Grasmere Lake, plus Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland Wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.
