Expect breathtaking views and a fine rural setting at Castlerigg, nestled on the lower slopes of Blencathra just over half a mile from the village of Threlkeld and within the grounds of the Blencathra Centre. Castlerigg is ideally placed for walking amidst some of Lakeland's finest peaks. The nearby paths will take you to the summits of Blencathra and Skiddaw or you can explore the trails up the valley and join the Cumbria Way on its northern route through the National Park. The village of Threlkeld has two good pubs which serve great bar meals and the nearest town is Keswick where you will find fantastic shopping, lake cruises, theatre and much more. Castlerigg is one of four properties at the Blencathra Field Studies Council, the others are Borrowdale, Latrigg View and Derwent Cottage. All offering amazing views and an excellent place to hike through the Northern Lakes. These properties are the optimal place for the active and offer a warm and comfortable base. About the location

THRELKELD

The charming village of Threlkeld is just to the east of Keswick in the Northern Lakes. The steep sided Blencathra looms over Threlkeld village, a popular starting point for walking the mountain. Threlkeld's history reaches back more than 800 years; the Romans were here from the 3rd to the 8th century, followed later by the Norse. In the village the church dates back to 1578 and there are two pubs that first opened their doors in 1688.
Though only a few miles outside Keswick, the village is tranquil and unspoilt with great views of Blencathra and the Helvellyn range.
