We can’t think of anywhere better to be than the Lake District to focus energy on health and wellbeing. From fitness to spiritual, goal-setting to digital detox, the Lakes can take care of all tempos of nurturing needs. Replace busy roads and hectic schedules with a vast mountain landscape, open fell top walks and breathtaking lakes. Here we look at some of the best ways to treat your mind and body to a wellness break in the Lakes.

Nordic Walking

Join us on a guided Nordic walk and learn how to burn a whopping 46% more calories with no added effort when walking. Nordic walking involves walking poles and adopting a lengthened stride. Experienced Nordic walkers cover more ground and use 90% of the body’s muscles and all with ease. In fact, Nordic walking is used for many in rehabilitation for sports injuries or postural issues. A half-day lesson will soon get you into the stride of things and gliding from peak to peak, checking off more Wainwright climbs than you ever thought possible. For beginners to hiking, the support that walking with poles gives means you can achieve a more active lifestyle that you’d perhaps expect and staying active is key to long-term health and wellbeing.

Bootcamp

If being away from your local fitness haunt or bootcamp class makes you nervous about booking an indulgent break, then bring your exercise regime with you. Choose a property with WiFi to enjoy your class at home, use the time and the off-road paths to focus on some Couch to 5K training – trail running is so much gentler on joints and the new scenery is sure to jog you along. Yoga

The skilful practice of yoga has become so popular, in part, because it is transferable and can be enjoyed anywhere. The joy of a holiday is it gives you the time to refine and hone those downward dog poses and more complex joint-opening sequences. Imagine a morning sun salutation away from the studio with grass on your bare feet and the soundtrack of blissful birdsong and sheep bleating. The practice of mindfulness goes hand in hand with yoga and is about taking time to notice. The peace and quiet of the Lake District provides the ideal backdrop to do just that. The art of taking notice of the beauty around you and taking the time to engage all senses is proven to reduce stress, anxiety and depression as well as support healthy sleep patterns and boost concentration. Yoga has also become popular within running communities to enhance performance, address balance issues and strengthen against injury.

Simply closing your eyes heightens other senses allowing you to enjoy the benefits of mindfulness, such as boosted concentration and better sleep

Spa Day

Since Roman times we’ve been enjoying the health benefits of a spa day. There’s the sauna, an ice-rub, plunge pools and an aromatherapy steam. But let’s be honest, the biggest benefit of time in the spa is the downtime. In the spa, there are no interruptions. Mobiles are locked away in lockers and busy minds are soothed to calmness. Imagine this, and then walking out to breathtaking mountain views and bustle-free streets.

Look out for Lakelovers cottages with inclusive leisure club access.

Headspace

Leave your headphones and Headspace meditations behind and head to one of many remote lakes in the Lake District for some true headspace. We’d recommend the circular walk around Loweswater, the smallest of the Western Lakes, where at this time of year you’ll likely have the lake and your thoughts to yourself. Heading east on the opposite flank of the Lakes is Haweswater Reservoir, which was once home to the village of Mardale – flooded to create this reservoir. Although the United Utilities car park at Mardale Head can get busy in peak season, pick your timings and head up to Blea Water, the deepest tarn in the Lakes that is surrounded by an amphitheatre making it an ideal spot to enjoy some headspace.

Ready to book yourself some R&R?  We have the perfect spaces to breathe deeply and sink into relaxation. From cottages with a hot tub to holidays with inclusive leisure club access, walks from your doorstep and lakeshore access – your wellness break in the Lakes is but a call away on 015394 8885 or email [email protected]. We are open Monday to Saturday 9.30am – 5.30pm.
