A family business that is just located on the edge of the Lake District in Kendal. Pennington’s supply award-winning hand-roasted, ethically sourced speciality coffee.

2. Sarah Nelson’s – Grasmere Gingerbread

If you haven’t tasted Sarah Nelson’s Gingerbread, then you don’t know what you’re missing.

This unique, spicy-sweet cross between a biscuit and cake was invented in 1854 in the village of Grasmere and is a perfect snack to enjoy any time of the day.

But don’t forget to order some of their rum butter which is award-winning too

Now, a third-generation family business, they are running a limited mail order service, with orders being despatched Monday to Thursday.

3. Hawkshead Relish Company

The Hawkshead Relish Company is an artisan producer of award-winning preserves based in the historic village of Hawkshead in the heart of the English Lake District.

Hawkshead Relish also use rare indigenous crops such as Lyth Valley Damsons, used in sweet as well as savoury preserves, harvested from small Lakeland farmsteads in south Cumbria.

Furthermore, they are all free from artificial flavourings, colourings, and preservatives.

4. Lakeland Artisan

Run by husband and wife team Geoff and Mary Monkman, Lakeland Artisan is an award-winning artisan food and drink company producing high-quality, hand-crafted products.

The company produces delicious preserves, chutneys and fruit syrups under Cumbrian Delights, a range of soft drinks and cordials as Mawson’s Original Drinks, a range of Gin, Vodka, Rum and Whiskey Liqueurs as Lakeland Liqueurs and finally, Lakeland Hampers that brings all the brand together as well as other quality local produce.

5. Carmel Sticky Toffee Pudding

This award-winning Sticky Toffee Pudding remains number one with pudding lovers, although most people agree that all of their puddings taste great.

These puddings are made by hand from 100% natural ingredients and are still sold in the Cartmel Village Shop in the Lake District.

6. Shed 1 Gin

Launched in 2016 by Andy & Zoe Arnold-Bennett, on the edge of Lake District in Ulverston, Shed 1 Gin produces small-batch classically distilled with a contemporary, award-winning, craft gin.

In their collection, they have 6 Gins (Shed Loads of Love, Cuckold’s Revenge, Fancy Frolic, Giggle in the Ginnel, Chilli Fest, Festive Tipple), 2 Liqueurs (Festive Bramble & Blackcurrant & Liquorice) and now a Gin Marmalade.

A Day’s Walk

Launched in lockdown, this local family business based in Field Broughton, pledge to source delicious Cumbrian Food within ‘a Day’s Walk’ in Cumbria, wherever possible.  Their cheerful vans are out and about in the Lakes, and now deliver to your home address, anywhere in the UK.  To top it all, they are offering Heart of the Lakes guests a nice 10% discount (Minimum spend £40 and delivery cost extra) – simply add in HOTL21 when you place your online order.
