For the past 10 years, we’ve been delighted to have sponsored the ‘First Man home’ in the Langdale Marathon. Of course, in 2020 it was always touch and go if the Marathon would go ahead. We’re thrilled that the organisers have confirmed it will be.
So this year we have agreed again to sponsor the First Man home and also the First Woman home. Both runners will receive £500 worth of vouchers which they can use in a stay at any Heart of the Lakes break.
We have always supported this iconic race, as it literally runs through the heart of the Lake District. Challenging races are such a Cumbrian tradition and we are delighted to be offering a prize to the First Man and Woman over the line. We hope they will have a peaceful stay at one of our cottages – but we can imagine as dedicated athletes, they’ll be spending time out running as well as relaxing!
The Langdale Marathon has a reputation as the toughest road marathon in the UK, whilst taking in some of England’s most spectacular scenery. The runners complete the half-marathon route twice, and climb up to Blea Tarn and Foulstep, following an anti-clockwise course from Great Langdale to Little Langdale, and through the pretty hamlets of Skelwith Bridge and Chapel Stile.
The Race organisers have said they are planning a safe, socially distanced event meeting government guidelines and Run Britain control measures.
Scott Umpleby, Race Director says: “It’s fantastic to receive this generous contribution from one of Ambleside’s longest standing businesses. In these current challenging circumstances, we really appreciate the continued support of Heart of the Lakes and look forward to presenting our Marathon winners with these amazing prizes.”
