Discover Ullswater & Around

Surrounded by some of the most spectacular mountain scenery in the whole of the Lake District National Park, Ullswater and the immediate area is one of the most beautiful places to spend your holiday. The lake itself runs a serpentine course of 8 miles making it the second largest in the district taking in the mighty vista of Helvellyn and beyond.

Take a cruise on a historic Ullswater ‘Steamer’ that provides stops at various piers around the lake making it easy to combine a walk with a sail to see even more of the natural surroundings. Explore the glorious Aira Force waterfall that simply takes your breath away in any season and makes the perfect backdrop to a family photo to capture the memory of your visit.

The Ullswater Valley is renowned for its rich wildlife with red deer and squirrels and species of birds including the Peregrine Falcon and ospreys to name just a few. Autumn is the season to visit and marvel at the stunning array of golden colours throughout the ancient woodlands before the winter arrives taking the leaves away and bringing a crisper feel to the air.

Pooley Bridge and Glenridding are small but perfectly formed villages where you will find historic Lakeland pubs, bustling cafes and not forgetting some of the most spectacular lake view restaurants around. No visit to the area, however, is complete without visiting the hamlet of Howtown where you can step back in time and enjoy peace and tranquillity at the end of a rewarding days walk.
