When William Oxley built his country house on the southern slopes of Skiddaw in the late 19th century he chose his site well. This spectacular Italianate mansion with its manicured gardens and breathtaking lake and mountain views must have offered the busy Victorian industrialist a rural retreat beyond compare - the story goes that the gardens were even designed to allow him an uninterrupted view of his paramour's house down in the valley below. William was obviously a romantic at heart!

Over a century later Underscar now provides you with the chance to escape to an unhurried destination where you can relax amid glorious scenery and pamper yourself in superior comfort. Underscar offers a small number of exclusive holiday homes which occasionally become available for rental and which will appeal to discerning clients looking for something special in this beautiful part of the Lake District National Park.

For those who appreciate beauty, tranquillity and the unbounded freedom of hill walking, the Northern Lakes is a delightful venue in any season. With its unique setting and unsurpassed all round quality, Underscar must surely offer the very best self-catering accommodation available in the north of England.

Underscar's wonderful location seems a million miles from the stresses of urban life, and yet it is so easy to reach by road.

Simply leave the M6 motorway at Junction 40, turn on to the A66 dual carriageway, and you will arrive at your Lakeland holiday home within 15 miles.
