The Garth is one of a cluster of picturesque early 18th century Lakeland buildings - formerly a farm, nestling below the eastern slopes of Bannerdale Crags, just a couple of miles from the tiny village of Mungrisdale and next door to Elind (see Property Ref. 4004).

With mighty Blencathra virtually on your doorstep you will certainly not lack for challenging walks and the really adventurous will be drawn to Sharp Edge - surely one of the finest ridges in the Lakeland mountains. Plenty of gentle rambles can be enjoyed in the area, with ample opportunities for cycling on quiet country lanes marked as cycle ways.

Situated almost midway between Keswick and Penrith you will find good shopping in either, whilst Keswick offers varied live theatre, lake cruises on beautiful Derwentwater, and of course the famous Keswick Convention (held in July). Ullswater Lake is just a short drive away for steamer cruises, boat hire and fine walking. There are several good pubs nearby and golf courses in both Keswick and Penrith. Pony trekking and off road driving are also nearby.

Accommodation: Carefully and sensitively renovated this Grade II listed barn retains a wealth of character features including fine beams, picturesque 'owl' windows and interestingly sloping walls. Spacious front entrance hall with hooks for coats etc. The beautiful square living room has living flame gas log burner, and glazed door to the rear garden (TV, satellite with free channels, DVD, video, CD/radio/cassette). Glass doors open into the delightful oak-fitted farmhouse dining/kitchen. Spacious ground floor bedroom (twin or zip-link king-size but please pre-order), en-suite bathroom has bath, separate shower, basin and wc. Additional downstairs wc.

Upstairs you will find a most attractive galleried landing leading to three further bedrooms - a master (king-sized) double en-suite (shower, basin, and wc), and two good twin-bedded rooms. Family bathroom has bath, separate shower, basin and wc. The property is most attractively furnished with every thought for your holiday comfort, with harmonious colours, fitted carpets and oak floor.

Outside: The property faces away from the other buildings, across the adjoining open sheep-grazed fields with a lawned rear garden where mature trees offer shade to the picnic table area. Ample parking provided for two or three cars. Secure bike storage available. Clients also have use of a shared games room with table tennis, mini pool, and table football, and there is also a shared grassy field where children could play. The owners live on site and will make you most welcome whilst leaving you alone to enjoy your holiday. Together with the owners' farmhouse and small camping barn, The Garth and Elind complete a delightful courtyard.
