Swallows' Nest is a newly converted stone barn cottage apartment attached to a Georgian farmhouse that nestles beneath Thornthwaite Forest and looks out over green fields to the magnificent mountain scenery of Skiddaw and the Helvellyn range and beyond Keswick to the east.
The comfortable apartment with its light and open aspect is a walkers' and cyclists' paradise on the edge of Thornthwaite village. There are many walks to be enjoyed from the door and in the surrounding area as well as easy access to the wonderful fells around Newlands, Borrowdale and the wild and beautiful West Lakes area. Yards from the door, the forestry track enters Whinlatter Forest with its miles of forestry tracks suitable for mountain biking. Cruise on beautiful Derwentwater, visit Mire House and the Osprey viewing point (in season).

There are excellent bar meals in Braithwaite village (5 minutes away) as well as many country pubs around the area offering good food. Keswick offers the celebrated Theatre by The Lake, a cinema, various pubs, good restaurants and shops, and for the adventurous, a climbing wall. Accommodation: The barn was built on a slope and the entrance to the apartment, which is from a country lane, is at first floor level, four steps lead up from the paved parking area to the front door. Entrance hall with storage cupboard for coats and boots. Double doors lead into a roomy L-shaped lounge/dining room with remote controlled living flame gas fire, TV and DVD player. The dining area leads through an arch to the newly fitted kitchen.
There are three bedrooms - master bedroom has a double bed with en-suite shower, basin and wc and there is a good sized twin room. (There is also a third room with bunk beds, which is available for use as a single on request - maximum 4 persons in the property.) There is a separate family bathroom with bath with shower over, basin, wc and heated towel rail.
The wonderful views over the southern tip of Bassenthwaite Lake to Skiddaw and beyond can be enjoyed from the lounge/dining room, kitchen and the double and twin rooms. Fitted carpets and comfortable cottage style furnishings throughout.
Outside: Small patio area with garden seat by the front entrance and parking for up to two cars.
