There can be few more picturesque locations in the whole of the Lake District than that of Elterwater village nestling amid spectacular mountain scenery at the entrance to the Langdale Valley. Beautiful in any season whether there is snow on the tops, rhododendrons and daffodils in flower, or glowing autumn colours, this really is one of the jewels in the Lakeland crown.
Mill Race Cottage is at the left hand end of a short terrace of three cottages, built in the former cooperage of Elterwater gunpowder works in a picture postcard setting overlooking the rushing Langdale Beck in the centre of the village. There is fine walking to be enjoyed in the area especially at the head of Great Langdale where you can tackle the Langdale Pikes, Bow Fell and the highest mountains of the central fells including Scafell and Scafell Pike. Make the most of opportunities for touring to all parts of the National Park, a good village pub and local shop, the gallery of famous local artist Judy Boyes and crown green bowling green open to the public.
Accommodation: This pretty Lakeland stone cottage has a cosy, beamed sitting/dining room (TV, video, DVD, CD/radio/tape player, electric fire or open fire, telephone). Winter guests have use of the open fire. Neat, well-equipped kitchen. Stairs from the sitting room to two bedrooms - one small double, one twin, and a bathroom with shower, basin and wc.
The cottage has a cosy and homely feel with pretty fabrics, fitted carpets and central heating.
Outside: Paved front patio with garden furniture. Parking behind the property for one car. Being close to the river the sound of the tumbling water is never far away and there are pretty outlooks to the river and the bridge just downstream.
