Many people find that the Lake District is the best part of England for a whole range of outdoor activities - from hiking up one of the highest hills, Scafell Pike, to a stroll around a lake for the less energetic! The quieter lakes such as Buttermere and Crummock Water are away from the main hustle and bustle of tourist attractions. However, the Lake District is much more than just a walkers' paradise... with hundreds of attractions to visit during your stay you will be spoilt for choice.

Here are just a small handful of activities that we, at Heart of the Lakes, and many of our visitors have enjoyed -

• The Lake District Visitor Centre at Brockhole is a great place to discover more about the National Park. It also has many other fun attractions for children such as an adventure playground, programmes of events throughout the year, lake cruises and gardens.
• For fans of Peter Rabbit's adventures, hop into the award winning attraction of The World Of Beatrix Potter, where you can follow the steps of this very famous and well-loved character.
• At Windermere the Steamboat Museum has one of the finest displays of motor boats and crafts. Boats can be hired at various points at Bowness-on-Windermere and at Waterhead in Ambleside, so you can enjoy your own delightful cruise on the lake.
• No visit would be complete to The Lakes without a ride on the famous Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway which is one of the most beautiful and breathtaking train journeys in this country.
• Further North, Rheged Discovery Centre is Britain's largest grass covered building. Named after Cumbria's Celtic Kingdom, Rheged includes a six storey high cinema screen that journeys through 2000 years of Cumbria's fascinating history.

And don’t forget the wealth of opportunities for drinking and eating! From quaint country pubs to livelier town theme bars, from restaurants specialising in locally produced food to an array of Indian, Chinese and Italian eating establishments, we are sure you will find something to suit all palates.

All in all, there is something for everyone in The Lake District. With so much variety and so many interesting things to do - it's difficult to imagine ever being bored. Tired maybe…but definitely not bored!!
