There is so much for you and your four legged friend to do in The Lakes. Most visitors and their dogs thoroughly enjoy the walking that the Lake District has to offer with high fell tops and valley rambles for all ages and abilities. We have miles of well marked trails and pathways so you will not be short of days out amidst our wonderful scenery – dogs simply love it here in the heart of the lakes.

The Lake District National Park caters well for dogs and their owners with many pubs and attractions accepting dogs – even the lake cruises will give your dog a friendly welcome. Indeed one wonderful day out would be to take your pet on the Ullswater Steamer from Glenridding to Howtown before enjoying the delightful walk that you can take

back along the eastern side of the lake, ending up back at Glenridding with time for a drink or bar meal in one of the local dog friendly pubs.

If you are staying in the Hawkshead or Coniston areas you can find many dog friendly places to visit - a day out in Beatrix Potter country will definitely include a trip to picturesque Tarn Hows. Bequeathed by Miss Potter to the National Trust, Tarn Hows is a delight with beautiful views and a pleasant circular walk on a level pathway with a canopy of cooling conifers. Don't miss taking your pet to Grizedale Forest with its fine forest trails, seasonal visitor centre, and various picnic spots as well as the ever popular Go Ape adventure course, which is one of the many places here in the Lake District that welcomes dogs.

Those who opt to stay in or around Ambleside, Grasmere or Keswick will find that dog friendly self catering really comes into its own. With delightful local shops selling an excellent range of local produce and many things to do with your pet, you'll be able to feel at home and enjoy your stay in your dog friendly cottage in any season.

Windermere Lake Cruises welcome dogs on board and the immediate area abounds in fine walking for all ages and abilities. It is even possible to hire a boat on Windermere and take your dog along for an enjoyable, different activity for all the family. Returning home at the end of a busy day to one of our Lake District cottages, you can relax and unwind and plan the next part of your dog friendly holiday.

With so much to do in the heart of the Lake District National Park you may find that you don't want to stray very far from your accommodation but if you and your pet feel like a longer day out you can always explore the wonderful dog friendly beaches on the West Cumbrian coast or Furness Peninsula. Or take your dog on a trip to the western reaches of Hadrian's Wall which lies between the Lake District National Park and the Scottish Borders. The famous 'La'al Ratty' Ravenglass to Eskdale Railway allows dogs on board and there are also the magnificent dog friendly grounds at Muncaster Castle to enjoy.
