Castle Lodge is surrounded by some of the finest high Lakeland fells including Scafell the highest mountain in England. Borrowdale is one of the most beautiful valleys in the Lake District and makes a fine base for those who wish to walk, tour or relax amid some of our finest mountain scenery.
Castle Lodge offers a cosy welcome to families or a few couples wishing to stay together - the Cumbrian Way and the Coast to Coast route pass the door and the peaceful location is a joy in any season. Parts of the cottage date from the mid-17th century including the character beams, thick stone walls and one of only three original stone staircases in the valley. The cottage was extended in the 1800s to include a wider 'main' staircase and an attractive large bedroom with arched ceiling.
Walks from the door include the high tops surrounding the head of Borrowdale, as well as river bank rambles and easier valley walks amid picturesque scenery.
Accommodation: Front door into first hallway has sitting room to the left (open fire, TV with satellite - non subscription channels, video, DVD). Additional boiler/store room for drying outdoor gear. Back door to rear of cottage.
The main staircase from the hall leads to a spacious double bedroom en-suite with shower, basin and wc (TV). The rest of the upstairs can be accessed from the main stairs or from the 'back stairs' from the snug and comprises two bedrooms - one double and one twin both with basins, separate bathroom (bath with shower), separate wc plus an additional washbasin on an enclosed small landing area.
