Ambleside is a bustling small town, ½ mile from the north end of Lake Windermere. The higgledy-piggledy village centre, with its interesting byways and hidden corners, is a favourite haunt of visitors to the Lake District.
Fascinating local shops, cafés and restaurants, two excellent cinemas and churches of most denominations are to be found here; together with bus tours serving all parts of the National Park.

At Waterhead (½ mile south of Ambleside centre) are the steamer piers for lake cruises, public launching point and boat hire. Ambleside has a lovely holiday atmosphere, surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery and is an excellent base for walking and touring.
Ambleside is a year round holiday location. Come in spring to enjoy the fresh colours in the crisp morning air - a brisk walk and a hot snack in one of the local cafés.
In summer why not choose your picnic provisions from one of the well-stocked local delicatessens and head out into the countryside, or for a lake cruise?
The autumn colours never cease to amaze the September and October visitors, whilst at the end of the year the whole village sparkles with Christmas lights and the shops have a fine selection of gifts for your loved ones.
